When I picked up my cherokee the other night, I asked about a front license plate holder. The dealer said that some models come with them and some without.

Since I have to have a front plate here, I'd rather have the holder.

Anyone have any luck ordering a front plate holder?

My Limited came with a substantial front plate holder; I didn't give this a thought until reading the thread. I'll have to look at other Cherokees and see if they are standard here in the Northeast. We don't have front plates in Pennsylvania so it was never an issue.

I'm in PA where we don't need a front plate. My salesman was really cool and said "I'm assuming you don't want use to drill into the front bumper of your new Cherokee to install the plate holder, right? I thought that was pretty nic of them because some dealers just install the holder right away after they receive the vehicle and then stick a dealer promotional plate on it, which would really piss me off.

I didn't get a front license plate holder from the car when I purchased the car. Later I found that on my shipping order that comes with the car, there is one item "FRONT LICENSE PLATE HOLDER". I called the dealer. They appeared to be unaware of it and said they can give me one.

I got mine off the transport truck so not only did it not have the front plate, they never drilled the holes for the rear plate. I almost didn't want the rear plate on either. :)

Unfortunately, Texas requires front plates. It is a $250 fine if you don't have it and get a ticket. At least the front plate holder looks nice.

Mine did not come with a front plate holder. Georgia does not require a front plate so I wonder if the vehicles are ordered according to the state requirements. Anyone know?

Pharrett, I agree with the others above. Mine came with the front plate holder. It looks decent. I didn't have to order it special or anything. I think your dealer was just unaware of it and/or asleep at the switch, and he should make it right. You definitely shouldn't have to order one separately.

Was looking at how it mounts since we are required in tx to have one, saw 2 small divots in the bumper where I assume you drill into. Would rather not have to drill but seems that is the design, is that how you guys have yours mounted?

Yes, The holes for mounting the holder line up to those divits. you drill them and use the provided screws to mount it.

None provided, gonna have to call the dealer I suppose. I ran plateless the last 2 years, may just risk the ticket.

We're lucky here. AZ does not require front plates and I think the Jeep looks great without them.

Thanks for all the replies. Texas has always had a law requiring them but until this year, there was a screw up and you couldn't actually be punished or fined for not having one. Now they changed the law and you will get fined.

A shame really. The Jeep and so many other cars I see look so much better without them.

Thanks to the Cherokee build list thread, I got my build list and found that it is indeed supposed to come with the front plate bracket.

Gonna make sure to hit them up for it when my plates come in.

I thought the plate holder should come in the car when it leaves the factory...

The OEM front plate bracket is black and somewhat bulky compared to other typical options. It looks fine on the darker colors, but mine is a cashmere and I'd prefer something that doesn't stand out as much. I also don't care to be a rolling advertisement for the dealership.

I don't have the vehicle yet, but clearly the front bumper is curved and the OEM bracket is designed to fit that. I don't know whether a standard, smaller metal bracket will work, but I've asked my dealer to hold off on installing the OEM bracket when it comes in so I can see if there's something else that would work. If a straight metal bracket won't work, another slightly less bulky option which will accommodate a curved bumper is the Flexyframe, which is an inexpensive rubber product:

@dsindm that doesnt look any less bulky than the OEM one (actually moreso). The OEM one is not what I would call bulky either, and it contours into the nooks/crannies very well (on the TH there are a couple of sharp angles it is shaped for, not as much so on the other models).

It is less bulky if you look at it from the side and it certainly covers less of the painted portion of the bumper, which is the objective. For example, the OEM bracket extends partially over the top lip of the bumper.
