I wonder what the actual failure rate is of these parts. I mean they must sell thousands of cherokees a year. If they were that bad would people still buy them? They. Are very popular in my area.

If ptu and transmissions were failing so much would FCA be ok with eating all that cost?

2014 Trailhawk V6 (Bought Used in 2016 with 51k miles)
Over 134k miles on it

PTU has an internal failure as Low Range no longer engages (yet all other drive modes work), and power liftgate motor also failed. Otherwise, everything else works as intended. This is both my personal, and work vehicle. On average, I do about 20-25k miles/year, so I'm expecting over 200k miles on it within the next three years. My grand plan is for this to last me up to 300k miles. I do anticipate to replace the PTU at some point, but transmission I think if I flush the fluid from time to time, it should last well over that.

Besides oil changes, filters, and normal routine maintenance, it's been a good vehicle overall.

At the dealer, I got a quote for a new PTU at $2300US + Tax, so 7k sounds ridiculously high. I would think even a new transmission would only set you back maybe 4-5k at the dealer. Expect about 2/3rds the price at a good independent shop.
I’m not sure where I got those figures from , maybe a KL FB group but they are in CAD and don’t surprise me in the least ,
and getting an independent do the work could be problematic too , the guy who replaced my PTU was the only tech that was qualified and had the experience to do the work. I’d bet the same with a replacement transmission.
I’m still waiting for a KL to show up at my local breakers .

But all in all the Jeep as been fantastic, I factory ordered it in early 2014 and it’s been one of the best - most versatile vehicles I’ve owned .

2016 V6 Trailhawk - Bought used with 4,585 miles on her
  • 11K - Replaced bad battery (warranty covered)
  • 20k - Installed GOBI rack
  • 25K - Added a roof-top tent and 2" hazard sky lift
  • 27k - Installed rocky road rails
At 29k now and no problems! Aiming to get 150 to 200k miles out of her. We'll see if the lift of extra stress of the 370 lb of gear shorten the life!

2019 Cherokee TrailHawk (not Elite)
3.2L
Purchased in September 2019 w/ 24k.
Now has 36k.

Had nothing mechanical go wrong. The radio sometimes forgets it has CarPlay. The reboot with the steering wheel audio controls and leaving the door open doesn’t work. I have to go under the hood and pull the fuse for the radio. It works afterwards but it’s funny. The thing remembers all the settings I had.
If it keeps happening, I’ll consider installing a momentary off switch to kill the power to the circuit. Because it only seems to have happened at the most inconvenient times. When I just get on the highway for a long drive or when it just begins to rain. 😂
Another thing (and it was the same thing on my buddy’s Grand Cherokee), 3/4 of the fuses under the hood were not fully seated. As if the machine responsible for pressing them in had the air pressure set too low.

I really like the car. I had a Liberty before and had been kicking the tires for a while on this new generation KL.

2015 Latitude V6 bought with 72,000 on it in 2017. Just regular oil changes one recall and new spark plugs. Gets 26-32 mpg highway. Used to commute 30 minutes to work. Made a number of long distance drives of five to eight hours. Now retired so not making the daily commute anymore. But have a five hour road trip tomorrow. Now has 147,600 on it.

I have a 2014 Trailhawk with a V6 3.2L and 9 speed transmission. It has 105,000 miles on it, the transmission is horrible in 1st and 2nd gears especially and the exhaust pipe before the resonator split on a flex line. Even with a lifetime guarantee the exhaust isn't covered. This is a common problem and I have spoke to many other owners on here whom had the same problem. I just got in touch with a Lawyer to start a Class Action Law Suit against Mopar for knowingly installing a flawed Flex Pipe in the Cherokee.

That's for the most part awesome! Sometimes when you read the posts on here it makes you think negative. I love hearing the good stories of high milage.

Of course there will always be some bumps on the road. Machines do break. Of course it is disheartening when it happens to you.

2019 Trailhawk that I ordered February 1st, 2018, and took delivery of in March 2018.

41,XXXkm so far.

I've had a couple of issues:
  • OEM battery has been replaced twice
  • Coolant sensor has been replaced twice
  • Tail lights have been replaced twice for moisture
  • Radio had a random issue at first, but has been great for the past year or more
  • Off-Road pages never happened...Jeep lied about these

2019 3.2 V6 Trailhawk Almost 25k miles no issues, only thing is I broke the front USB port cleaning the leather seats. (was not paying attention and got the cord stock between the seat and consul when I moved the passenger seat back) Part was not pricy and the service department did some searching found a coupon and I was out the door for $25 for the install.

2014 Latitude. 111,000 miles. Radiator change and rear wheel bearings at just over 100,000 miles. My U Connect screen sometimes takes a few minutes to start up. I'm still not sure where this issue is going, but overall I am very happy with my jeep.

Next time it happens, try the 2-button reboot method... The photo may not match your KL, but every Uconnect system I've ever tried this with reboots. Just hold them both down until your screen goes blank, everything will reboot.

Is it still road worthy? How many miles did it go?

Mopar, FCA, etc know for sure, it is a big secret. Each part is manufactured as inexpensively as possible to last the vehicle Warranty period.
This applies to all vehicle manufactures, they have to compete and make money to survive. This is it: Don't have a clue what it is but it looks important.
\mathrm {MTBF}= \int_{0}^\infty \; R(t) dt

\mathrm {MTBF}
=mean time between failures
R(t)
=reliability function

I have a short Oldsmobile story about this but I will spare you.
