Backed the jeep out yesterday and had to go back in to get something. Looked down at the garage floor and there was a pretty good sized puddle of oil on the floor. Dealer put it on the lift for a look and said it was the oil cooler. Left it overnight and hopefully this morning they are putting on a new one. No idea what would have caused the cooler to start leaking. 2014 Cherokee Latitude V-6.

oil pressure sensor replaced

I got a Check Engine Light for a bad oil pressure sensor. I did not leak and did not cause a problem. Just set a code.
The oil pressure sensor may be near the oil cooler?
The dealer had to remove the upper and lower intake manifolds to replace the sensor.
Could putting the oil filter cap on too tight cause the oil cooler to leak?
Take good notes and see if you can get the mechanic to take pictures. I let them use my digital camera and sometimes they will actually take pictures.

I would assume that a leaking oil cooler would be covered under the warranty...

Advised that the gasket failed. Installed: Adapter - engine oil filter, gasket-intake manifold (6), gasket-intake plenum (6). Changed oil and filter and cleaned the under carriage. Service writer said mine was the second one they have done. Everyone better start paying attention to the under engine spot on the ground and check oil level regularly. Everything was covered by warranty.

VERY VERY common failure with the 3.6L. 3.2L uses same type, if not the same cooler. Filter housing has 3 thermal welded plugs near the base. It the filter cap is put on too tight, the housing can flex and break the thermal weld. Most leak right away, that is noticed within a couple hours, but some can take 2-4 weeks before being noticed. Kind of a poor design, IMO. The housing should metal.

I had the same oil cooler leak. Seems like warranty item. Just over 50k miles. However the applied 100 deductible to my lifetime warranty. Not my 100k warranty. Does that seem right?

I don't know legally, but semantically, yes -- once you pay for the extension from 100K to lifetime, that's really the only warranty because it subsumes the original. At least in my little pea brain; and I don't worry regardless as long as something keeps covering any issues.

Did you have the extended warranty? I am having the same issue took car in for oil change a few weeks ago now have a bad leaking oil engine cooler. Dealer is saying that the engine oil cooler is not covered by warranty, and I have the extended warranty. Any issues when you had it fixed with the warranty?

Mine was replaced under the original warranty. I don't have the extended warranty, but if you read your copy of the extended warranty it should be very clear if your dealer is correct or not.

Hi KeithU,

The extended warranties to vary from plan to plan. If you want to send me your VIN in a PM, I can double-check your warranty coverage to be sure.

Update. So the dealer called me back after their former finance manager(friend of friend) called them to tell them what they were doing wasn't right. If he doesn't call I think I get screwed and have to file all kinds of complaints. The replacement part#68105583AE. Dealer said they "found a way" to get the part under warranty and asked if I would like my money refunded. Stupid question of course I would. Next day service manager calls me and says Detroit is sending a survey and they would appreciate a good review, yeah right. I would suggest if the dealer won't cover it keep pushing the issue.

2014 Jeep G C - 70,000 under warranty

Noticed the oil spots, same as everyone else. No doubt oil filter was put on too tight that caused it. Replaced Oil Cooler free due to warranty. Never heard of issue before but found it odd that many are having it. Glad it was no cost but did cost me a half day at work.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Leaking Oil- Oil Cooler?

Hello. We have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 75,000 miles. Th check engine light came on and a few days later we noticed oil under the vehicle. If it is the oil cooler, is this covered under the power train warranty? Should it be? I have read dealer's deny the warranty stating the issue was caused by the oil change facility. Just want to be prepared for when we take the Jeep in this week. Thank you.

Hey there Michelle and/or Suzanne, welcome to the forum ! ;)

This forum is dedicated to the Cherokee (KL), not the Grand, but we don't discriminate much here, haha.

What we can do is ask a Jeep/FCA social media representative to help you out here a bit, so giving @JeepCares a honk. Stick around, one of the girls should stop by soon.
