So the Premium Cloth Seats can no longer be ordered on Jeep.com. Up until two weeks ago they could be. Edmonds has them listed as "late availability" now (but not a few weeks ago. My dealer ordered them for me on my build without knowing. He is now looking for an alternative for me.

Sounds like the seat manufacturer can't keep up with the high demand.
I think Chrysler is trying to eliminate cloth seats on all of their product lines. They have already totally eliminated cloth seats on the Chrysler line. I have a Cherokee Limited II, decked out. I have no interest in full time off roading other than driving on Michigan's poor roads and in Michigan's winter weather conditions. I was at my dealer's yesterday and he had a Latitude on the showroom floor with cloth seats. I have to say it just didn't look or feel right. If you are going to spend almost $40,000 on a vehicle it should have leather seats. Don't get me wrong I love my Cherokee Limited II but I think the Cherokee can't decide what it wants to be when it grows up. Is it a FWD mall cruiser, an everyday commuter vehicle. or a full time off road vehicle? Trying to be all things to all people is not the best plan. The old saying, Jack of all trades, master of none" comes to mind here.

Some of us still like cloth seats. So I'm glad we can get an optioned up 4x4 Latitude with cloth. There is a logical reason for this. Anyone who lives in the southwest, especially the desert cities, will tell you how hot a black leather seat will get after it sits in the sun in the summertime here. I've done that. That's why we also don't need heated seats or a heated steering wheel here. I'm glad those are just options. So I'm glad that cloth is still available. Options and choices are a good thing. Like I also don't care about paying for automatic parking, lane wandering control, or automatic braking. If some people can't drive, they shouldn't get behind the wheel. It's nice when you can pick what you want on a vehicle to fit your needs. Our current Yukon 4x4 was bought new in 02 and cost $40,000 back then. It has many options on it but we bought it with cloth seats.

I prefer cloth seats to leather for much the same reason, plus I'm just not a big fan of the feel of leather seats. We've ordered a Limited for access to the Tech Package, but if it was an option, I would have swapped out the leather for cloth seating - even if they didn't cut us a discount.

My wife prefers cloth over leather which is why we went with cloth but only because we could get it early. Now that its "late availability" we will seriously look at leather for the TH or we will go re-look at the Latitude.

I had to take leather in my Challenger since they don't allow heated seats with cloth so once my wife got use to the leather in the Challenger she never liked them before but the heated seats made her like the leather so she got the Limited or rather ordered a Limited because now she doesn't mind leather seats. She also said the leather is much better than it use to be.

Leather Elimination

I think Chrysler is trying to eliminate cloth seats on all of their product lines. They have already totally eliminated cloth seats on the Chrysler line. I have a Cherokee Limited II, decked out.

I am not buying it. Over 50% of the Cherokees being built are Latitudes and Sports... they are cloth. The local dealer has about 15, only four have leather. I believe they are forcing the issue on the CH TH. The Limited trim being leather is a given.

I said I wasn't coming back here but I couldn't let what you said go. My Jeep dealer is the largest Jeep dealer in Mid Michigan. When I was there yesterday he had so many Cherokees he had them lined up along the highway because he had no place to put them, He is selling them like crazy. My salesman told me yesterday that they do not have one Sport because nobody is buying them and he can't give them away. He said the only models that he is selling are the fully loaded Limiteds and fully loaded TrailHawks. Maybe it is because it is a high income area, I don't know. My dealer does have one Latitude in the showroom with cloth seats as a model for people to sit in. He said he chose it as a model because he can not sell it right now. Perhaps our experience is different because we live in different areas. BTW, my dealer does a booming business in $60,000 Grand Cherokees Overlands too.

Macfan - nothing personal. Jeep execs including the big boy himself says the majority of CHs are latitudes. Jeep.com inventory site supports that. The last time I saw a breakdown of the production (about 19k vehicles) it was a majority of latitudes.
I agree with your dealer... the sport sucks.

Hey guys, it's all about choice. Some people like leather, some like cloth. Some like white cars, others prefer black. Some people can afford a $40k Cherokee but still rather have cloth seats. Some people like 4x2 Sports because they just want a nice jeep and don't off road at all. Others get a loaded Trailhawk. For me, since I can't get cloth seats on a Limited, a 4x4 loaded Latitude with the cloth seats is the best fit. That's what we did when we bought our 4x4 Yukon in 02. It is nice that Jeep is offering Cherokees with many options and models because there are a lot of people out there who only drive to shopping malls and work and certainly don't need a Trailhawk. For the company to be successful, it's important to sell a lot of quality vehicles to all types of people. Just my opinion though. The main thing is that the Jeep brand succeed and be a high quality vehicle, no matter if you bought the cheapest one or the most expensive vehicle on the lot. :)

Thanks Scarpi - could not have said it better myself. The best vehicle is the one that best fits your needs and we all have different needs. It doesn't mean a lower priced 2x4 sport model is not as good a vehicle as a Limited or TH if it better meets your personal needs.

I think Jeep has done a remarkable job with the Cherokee, in trying to meet the needs of as many people as possible.
