Well, after much hemming and hawing, I traded my trusty JK for a much more shiny new TH .

The dealer is making the hood decal thingee go away at this moment, along with making sure every software update and TSB is current as of today. I am supposed to go pick up the TH in the morning.

I'm thinking by noon the TH will be in 4-low with the locker engaged in some sand wash yet to be determined so it will get a proper break-in. We are between the Superstition wilderness and the Four Peaks wilderness in Arizona, so finding a bit of sand and some rocks is not all that difficult for us.
I am NOT a serious off-roader, but do like fire trails mostly which in this neck of the woods means some creeping through sand and crawling over loose rocks and such trying to keep from getting " Arizona pinstriped " by the various cactus and mesquite and the like along the trails of the foothills.

I sure do HOPE we can ride comfy without large parts falling off. That would be nice. Our Wrangler has been a good and faithful desert toad, but the wife apparently wants mo buttons ... Geezers around here find it hard to get into the back seat of a 2 door Wrangler, so I get a new toy to fiddle with!

We'll see how the PDI goes in the morning and then go play a little bit.

Congrats on the new TH! Glad to see another owner from Arizona.

The backdrop to bout shop is Superstition Mountain with the Four Peaks to the north.

Ya know, the JK did in fact only cost me about 1200 and we had it for three years. Not bad at all !

Went into the Bulldog Canyon area just for a bit already.... and the KL does just fine actually. Rides pretty nice off-road with the tires down a little. Throws a lot of dirt and crud up onto the rear quarter panels and of course the hatch gets covered in dust right off the bat... Steering is good, all the buttons worked OK from what I could tell. Gonna have to do some experimentation to see what works best in different terrain conditions.

Not a whole bunch of clearance at the very front diff skid plate area, but it's adequate for what I use em for, assuming I take it easy and watch my approach line and such. I can't see the front end very well compared to the JK of course, but I'll get used to it. Rides GREAT and very quiet. PLENTY of ponies, and so far the tranny is operating nicely.

When we had the dealer check the software versions, one TSB and update needed to be done. This one was built first of November, and needed the mid-December ECM and Body Control updates apparently, along with some update for the 8.4AN . Works well from what I can tell. I'm happy with it.

It was showing right at 28 MPG AVG on the secondary roads most of the time, but when ya git on it the single digit numbers show up pretty quickly... I think it'll be just fine....

Huh, mine was built in October and I had it in the shop on New Years Eve. The only software updates they said mine needed was related to the self-park system. Should I have gotten this ECM and body control update, as well?

I have no clue as to which updates were done "when", just to get the CURRENT software load into your various control modules? I know I had to get the dealer tech to actually plug in and check the versions against the update listings in the Jeep support system. If ya just get a print out of what the "status" is on your vehicle it won't apparently tell ya much of anything without actually going into the diagnostics process with the vehicle plugged into the system.

I will say that my transmission is working very nicely, and all the modes work well.
My fuel use is better than I had hoped for so far. I'm in warm weather, but the vehicle only showed 9 miles on the odometer when I took delivery so it's still in break-in at this point. I only have like a couple hundred miles so far, maybe an hour or so off-road just fiddling with the buttons and trying to get a feel for how to operate the driveline modes to best effect without getting stuck in the sand like a beached whale ....

The fuel usage was even better today. The average is now up to over 24 since new. Idle is silky smooth. All the buttons WORK.

LIFE IS GOOD!
