Driving at 45 MPH down the road, a deer jumped right out in front of me and I slammed it at 45 MPH. My TH was 2 weeks old at the time.

I exited the vehicle terrified to see the damage I had done. But when I walked around to the front....

NOTHING! :D The only thing that was damaged was my license plate, which was screwed directly into the front bumper when my dealer couldn't find the plate holder that came with the vehicle.

The bottom 1/4 of the license plate hangs below where the TH bumper starts to angle in, and it bent to follow the lines of the bumper.

This means that, thanks to the 1" lift and an angled undercarriage, the deer was redirected downward without damaging my car. No cracks, no scratches, no holes. Just a little bit of fur.

I've done more damage to my paint and plastic offroading than I did hitting that deer.

The deer ran off. I'm not a hunter, but I just took my safety certification course and will become one next year. I have tons of friends who would have come to get the deer for venison, but the thing somehow got up and took off. Here's a pic of the crease in my license plate. I bent it back so it would be legible.

You can see the bottom of the license plate frame broke, too.

I am glad you're ok but that collision should have been reported to whatever agency looks after wildlife. The poor creature should have been tracked and put out of it's misery if need be.

Folks, if you are in Ontario our bow season is on till the end of December. Shotgun season starts where I am next week, for one week. In some areas it may be rifles. Some areas allow hunting on Sunday. Bows allowed where I am on Sunday, other places allow guns on Sunday. Check the regs for your area. In hunting season critters are being pushed around by hunters and frightened out onto roads. Not just deer, turkeys and moose and bears and anything wild that you could hit.

Be careful. Slow down.

Wow. Nice to know. I wish I could say the same this past October in my 2001 Grand Cherokee. (Hoping to replace soon with a new 2014 Cherokee). Deer jumped up out of the shrubbery as I passed. No time to react. I was only going about 35mph. The deer did not survive. My front bumper and 7 slot grill did not either. Cost $800 to repair. The deer? Gone on to a better world I suppose.

I wish I was as lucky as you. My 13 day old Trailhawk was hit on Friday night on the interstate, but instead of a deer it was an out of control road raging Toyota Camry. The Cherokee is so new that they don't have any clue on how long it will take for a new wheel and all the other parts needed for repair. Congrats on avoiding a similar catastrophe.
