Has any one else have this happened? I don’t use the Homelink on the visor but I’m constantly using it to block out the Sun. Seems like the UV rays damaged it. Can the Homelink module be replaced without replacing the visor? Can it be swapped for one without Homelink?

Hi,

I don't have it in my Cherokee. Looking at that pic : seems as though it is a protective film on the buttons that you could easily remove / peel off ?

definitely thought about trying that, kinda worried how it might look if i peal off the coating. I believe it’s just white plastic underneath the “paint” or coating.

Looked at the Homelink buttons on my 2014, look as good a new.
After visual inspection my guess is you can't replace just the buttons, the frame doesn't seem to want to come loose.
There is a hidden flap over the screw so you can remove the visor.
Disconnect the connector, then you will know if you can use a visor without Homelink. Hopefully no check engine codes.
According to my Hayne's Repair Manual replacing the visor looks fairly straight forward.
If you don't use Homelink why worry about the buttons?
Cover the buttons with a JEEP bumper sticker, its a JEEP Thing.

I worry about it because I try to keep my cars in clean condition, personally i feel stickers are tacky and don’t think they fit my style. Ill possibly move to a house with a garage door opener in the future so I’d rather keep the function if possible, but it seems the visors with Homelink are hundreds more than base model visors

Good thing you don't have my TH. It is sitting in the carport with $500 in body damage and a crushed right rear door that isn't getting fixed until I crush it a few more times.
Guess we all have different goals.
Understandable, i like to baby my pavement princess 😂

Recyclers / junk yards could yield a decent visor...
When you find a replacement visor... peel off the film before you spend money.

Yeah underneath that coating is probably white or opaque plastic. Though you could possibly paint it after you peel off the coating. I have never seen the homelink do that before. Do you typically leave your visor down when your Jeep is parked in the hot sun? If so that could be the cause. I always make it a point to always close the visor to avoid the homelink module from baking in the sun.

Just curious, what is all that blue staining I see on the buttons and the visor? Is it possible that whatever it was caused the bubbling?
