Hey!

So today I went to a truck shop and had a hitch installed on my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. They said that the wiring harness was already attached (bonus!!) - that I just need to bring the jeep to the dealership for them to program it.

However called the dealership and they quoted me $180 for 10 min worth of work!

Is that normal? Is there a way I could get around that?

Thanks :)

This is the Jeep Cherokee forum, not Grand Cherokee. You may want to check over at jeepgarage.org.

Hey thanks for stopping by. Even though this is the Cherokee forum I will chime in here having been through same scenario with my 09 GC. Trailer wiring on modern vehicles isn't like the old days of taping into the tail light harness. I had the dealer add the Mopar hitch and harness which goes all the way up to the fuse panel and they then have to go into the ECM and flip the switch to activate the circuit. Don't remember what that cost back then but $180 sounds way high just to go in and flip that circuit on. Down side of all this is when it fails its dead and you can't fix it like the old days. Mine died just as we were prepping for a trip and went to pick up the trailer and no lights. I traced the wiring up to where it hooked into the fuse panel and confirmed that the wiring was good but no power at FP. That was as far as I could go at that point. I went to dealer and they confirmed there was a problem and replaced the ECM (was still within warranty), just barely made it on our trip. I would check around at different dealers or try and plead and negotiate a better price. That price sounds more in line with a complete harness install. Good Luck.
