AC Blower Works Intermittently

Hi Guys

I have been having the same issue with my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have an extended warranty that will cover this problem. However, I have it at the dealer this morning and they told me that if they cannot recreate the problem they cannot fix it. I explained that the problem only happens when driving the car for at least 1.5 hours on road trips. I gave them a list of things to check, the blower motor resistor and the fuse. I am almost certain nothing will be done. Can anyone help?

Thanks in Advance

Hi there Jake, and welcome to JCC ;)

Unfortunately this is a Jeep Cherokee forum (KL platform) only. But you are not the first GC owner to post here with blower motor problems...

My suggestion : try a forum where Grand Cherokee owners participate. I know of two : JeepGarage.org and JeepForum.com

Good luck !

Any updates on troubleshooting this? My 2017 Cherokee just started doing this recently. I convinced myself that it was a loose wire... but have spent hours looking at all the wiring all over the whole thing and can't find anything out of place.

Hi there, welcome to the forum :)

Please tell us more about your specific symptoms.
And is it brutally cold where you live right now, by any chance ?

I have the occasional clicking sound from the passenger side, under the dash, and the sporadic blowing, but no heat or cold air being produced when it’s not blowing.

I live in Daytona Beach, Florida it is NOT cold at all.

I miss my a/c. :-/

I have the 2017 Jeep Cherokee Lattitude Anniversary Edition, under 60,000 miles. No other issues. I bought it used last year- but it was immaculately maintained. Previous owner was the dealer’s daughter, so all maintenance was done properly and promptly

Problem seemed to start after a long road trip, but climate controls were not used for most of that trip.

It seemed to get worse after I replaced my air filters... but I’ve checked them repeatedly, they’re in properly. No loose wires that I can find, no blown fuses.

Daytona Beach : gotcha. Just FYI : it's close to -30F here this morning ;)

Ok... sounds like you'll need to take it in. Probably need a new blower motor. Shame very little or none of the members who've posted about similar problems here never got back to us with the conclusion...

I asked about cold temperatures because these blowers are known to sometimes seize up in ice, which forms down into the air intake cowling. But we can rule this out in your case...

I am having this same issue with my 2016 Cherokee. I'm so discouraged that I see so many people having this issue and there's no fix to it? Using a hammer or tapping on things isn't a fix. I have a sneaking suspicion I should dump this car.

My blower motor completely stopped working. I’m an out of work teacher (so, I was already poor & now I’m all the way poor).
I’m nervous about taking it to the dealer (I’m no longer under warranty).
I think it could be related to the recent power regulatory recall.
I went in for that & 2 weeks later, that issue was back.
My a/c fan will kind of work sometimes if I get above a certain speed which means I’m above the normal RPMs.

If this helps, just know a new blower motor (non Mopar but just as good) can be purchased for roughly $46, if you know where to look :

And the blower motor is not that hard to replace, you could ask any decent mechanic and get it done for cheap.

Thanks, Mark!
I’m at the dealer for an oil change... they told me an a/c full system check would be $800!
I’m definitely going to try just replacing the blower motor myself (or with a regular mechanic) before I go any further with the dealer.
Oh my. The A/C system is unrelated to your blower motor issues. Dont let them touch the A/C...

I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee Limited, my AC has be intermittently working/not working for a while now. I’ve changed the in cabin filter, checked the fuses and still nothing. I’ve called the dealership to see if they could look at it and they said they have a 3 week estimate before they can even look. I just hit 90,000 miles before that never have had an issue. I just had the thermostat replaced before this happened, do you think they are related? Should I take it to another mechanic or should Jeep’s only be worked on by Jeep people?

Hi there ! Welcome to JCC :)

Well, the way you describe this, definitely sounds like an A/C problem if you referring to intermittent cold air. If however you mean the blower fan is intermittent, then... whole different problem. Can you elaborate a little more on your specific situation ? Thx.

I believe it to be a blower issue, as it doesn’t matter if it’s on heat or AC it doesn’t do anything (no sounds or air flow of any kind) . Some times it will be not working and then I can feel the vents and they are cold but no air blowing out of it. At times it runs fine, but then just stops. I live in Texas and it gets really hot, seems those days are really when it doesn’t work.

Thanks. Ok then, not A/C specific. When I say A/C, I mean the system involved in creating cold air (condenser, compressor, evaporator). You're talking about the blower, most likely. You can have any mechanic look at this, as long as they are competent. A blower problem is not that complicated for any trained mechanic...

I'm having the same issues. Took to the dealership twice and they told me to replace the blower motor resistor and doing that removed the error codes (B10EA and B10E9) but the HVAC is still working intermittently. Last summer my fan made weird noises and I had the blower motor replaced so it's still new. I'll start the car and sometimes it'll turn on and other times it doesn't (but will kick in after 10-15 minutes). Just had it looked at all day yesterday by our family mechanic (he's been servicing our cars for 20 years) and he checked all electrical and BCM. Checked the fuses. I've tried tapping the blower motor, nothing. It's getting hot in Chicago and I can't stand this!

Hi there! Were you able to find a solution? I'm desperate after 2 visits to the dealership.
