Does this work and get read by the ezpass system? Just put it in there temporarily while getting the car now wondering if I should keep it in there permanently

I don't have EZ pass, but I do have sunpass, which uses the same thing. I believe it has to see the code on the device when you pass under it. If blocked it cant see the code. Rental cars do the same thing with theirs. When its "on" its visible from the outside of the plastic box. When its "off" it just covers up the front of it facing the windshield with plastic. I just leave mine in the center console and use it when traveling since most of the places around me aren't toll roads. When traveling in south Florida though, it stays on as everything is a toll road.

I have EZPass (I'm in NY) but it's mounted to the windshield. Fits right under the rear-view move where it can't be seen. EZPass uses RFID so it needs to be able to receive the activation signal from the overhead readers. Having it in the top dash compartment of the Cherokee may block the signal just enough for it to misread at times (and then you get toll-by-mail which you can contest if you're an EZPass holder). In the end, it might be hit or miss, you just have to try and then log online and check your Transactions view.

it is supposed to be on the windshield, but the highway systems have license plate readers, so these transponders are actually obsolete, anyway. meaning I'll bet you can chuck it in the trash & they will still recognize you

This is correct however here in NY (and in neighboring NJ) you pay more for toll-by-mail (which is done by the license plate). 🥺

I'm surprised more places aren't using these very small stick-on transponders. Yes, there are some of the plastic box type transponders floating around in GA, but the one I was issued a couple of years ago is a translucent sticker about the size of a band-aid and sticks on the inside of the windshield, just below the mirror. Doesn't interfere with visibility at all and super simple to apply.

I think that's only on the Mass Pike so far that's using that system. I have like four different transponders in the transporters, EZ Pass for Midwest and East Coast, Sun Pass for Florida, Pike Pass for Oklahoma, and FasTrak for California "Double Tax Ripoff Roads". I already pay in the high 5 figures every year in fuel tax, and other various road use taxes on my fleet. One would think that would be paying my fair share, but nope...🤔😎

Thanks for all the reply's I will just velcro it on the windsheild again. Don't want to deal with the hassle of talking with ez-pass folks. Did that once for like a $1.50 charge that was duplicated and I had to go through 3 levels of supervisor for $1.50.

Maybe thats why I never check my account anymore, I probably should

You can get rid of one. Sunpass and EzPass are now interchangable in Florida and elswhere (if you have the Sunpass Pro which I think just came out this year, but looks like the old stick on one). I still need to upgrade my Sunpass at some point and get the new pro model.

you can do it online takes about 2min. no talking to idiots on phone.

I had a flaky ez-pass and it missed a gate on 80 near cleveland and charged me for toledo to streetsboro 10$ instead of 2 gates for about a buck
just went in and fixed it and was auto refunded and recharged the correct amount.

New Hampshire and New York have plate readers too. At least in Mass if they can't get a reading from the transponder and read your plate they charge your EZ Pass account, if you don't have an account you get the bill in the mail.

In Mass the transponders are free so I have one for every vehicle.
