Emissions Recall - Catalyst Efficiency U90

For 2015 2.4L engine models (such as mine), the recall notice includes PCM, TCM reprogramming and catalyst replacement. I only received this notice today and I do not have any info on what other model years that may also be affected.

If you also have this engine, you can always check it on recalls.mopar.com and plug in your VIN number to see if it will affect you. I have no info on whether it affects any vehicles outside the US.

Yeah, since most catalyst failures due to overheating are caused by excess fuel in the exhaust, It would not surprise me if Stellantis deals with this partly by programming a leaner 'fuel map' into the PCM.

This could end up causing driveability issues you don't have now. Me, I would at least wait awhile for others to report back on their results.

Stellantis seems to have a history of sub-optimal fixes for some stuff, like the 2nd gear circlip fiasco & the sheared splines thing. Kinda like when you tell the doctor your leg hurts when you move it a certain way & he says: "don't move it that way". :p

I took my into the dealer a couple of months ago. They had it for a day. I don't see any changes on how it drives (keeping fingers crossed). I was told the main issue that they would have is bolts breaking off but they told me that mine was no problem.
I just looked up U90, and see that it targets 2.4L 2016s only (KL, Dart, 200). Is there another one (other recall campaign) for 2015s ?
I'm not near my paperwork right now, but, I'm pretty sure that it is the same recall

Since Pennsylvania has annual emissions testing and the vehicle has passed every year for eight years and I don't have any performance issues presently - that I can detect - then I think the U90 Recall will have to go along without yours truly, unless: 1) It finally fails the emission testing or 2) the converter eats itself.

I got this recall both for my 2015 Cherokee 2.4L, as well as for my wife's 2017 Renegade 2.4L.

I will need to get this done in order to pass smog here in CA. I believe part of the smog check is ensuring all recalls relating to emissions have been performed.

I'm not excited about potentially losing some of the already borderline power level in the heavy Cherokee.
The Renegade has plenty of reserves, but when I'm towing my utility trailer full of green waste with the Cherokee in the mountains, I need every last bit of power the poor Tigershark can muster.

If it hasn't failed emissions before, why would it fail now? I wouldn't worry about it unless you have to...😎

I think he's saying all smog-related recalls have to be completed before California will allow him to renew his registration.

Ya, you're probably right. That wouldn't surprise me one bit out there in the People's Republic of California...😉😎

Plenty of downsides like expensive housing, corruption and busy-body legislation here, yet I honestly can't think of a single other state in the US I'd rather live in.

I'm from San Clemente, and lived there for 35yrs. Thought that was paradise, until I left and moved to Utah 25yrs ago. I miss two things, the weather, and the ocean, but not bad enough to ever move back. When we go to the beach now, we go up to the Central Coast around Pismo and Cuyucos. I avoid Orange, San Diego, and LA County like the plague now...😉😎

I avoid LA county like the plague as well lol.
We go down to socal (from the bay area) to visit my in-laws who live in Palm Springs and I always go around east out to Lancaster, so we can avoid the whole LA valley :D
I do like San Diego, though.

I think the most beautiful part of the coast is the central coast from Pismo up to Monterey/Carmel, though my happy place is Santa Cruz.

They completely ruined my hometown. San Clemente used to be a quiet, sleepy little beach town where everyone was just cool, regular working folks. Now it's an overbuilt, and under engineered giant clusterf#*k for self entitled, whiny a-holes...LOL!!!😎
