I think that link is still applicable.
You can search this Forum but I am pretty sure it is 2000 lbs.
Refer to this Post plus others: New owner need help with tow capacity Post #18 especially and Post #3.
If you will be travelling the PA Pike or US 30 you will probably want a real truck with factory tow.

Yes, however, if you get the mopar hitch and wiring on a trailhawk, they can update your build sheet for the higher rating.

Isn't that for 2019+?

You need all of this on your build sheet already:

1- Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler
2- Heavy Duty Engine Cooling.
3- 3.517 Final Drive Ratio.
4- Trailer Sway Damping
5- Engine Oil Cooler

Yes, and maybe... for 2018s too, I just forget. But not for a 2017, that's for sure, even if all the hardware is there.. :-/

And if you have a 2019+ Trailhawk, you have all of those...😎

That depends on year. 2019+ = yes
not sure about 2018,
2017 no.
Just out of curiosity, what is missing from a Trailhawk in 2017?

Absolutely... nothing. Something changed corporate level, they finally allowed what had been so obvious to enthusiasts for years : non Tow Group THs and AD2s have the required hardware and anti-sway program, minus receiver + wiring.

Now that would make sense. I didn't think anything was actually different about any of them. Ad2 and up already have all the additional items, minus the actual hitch and harness.

2.0 comes with 3.734
I put that in my post, then I removed it because we're talking about a 2017 MY.

I never know when I'll get "corrected" for either leaving something irrelevant out or adding something irrelevant in!

The nature of modern forums!! :sneaky:

A non tow package cherokee won't have the trailer tow electrical BCM side of things activated......and Mark can't actually prove that statement because he's never read a BCM or done anything technical. If I had a non tow package cherokee (All 3 of mine have them) I would read the BCM to show it's an option that needs to be activated.

I read it as you were talking about a 2019 and it had 3.517

Since it was already covered that 2017 is not "upgradeable" to towing pkg.
If you were talking about a 2019 then there is the option for 3.734 as well.

Lets move back to something less complicated such as the best motor oil ;).

OK. Since you brought it up again. :)

1. I asked "Isn't that for 2019+?" in response to the "they can update your build sheet for the higher rating." I didn't know for sure if it applied to earlier models, like the OP's 2017.
2. It wasn't yet established in this thread that it didn't apply to the 2017. Look at the order of posts.
3. 3.517 is the final drive ratio for 3.2L vehicles from 2014 thru 2022. I was just posting what was asked by the OP if he had what was needed on the build sheet. It applies to all MY for towing. It only applies to 2019+ for the dealer upgrade (see next point).
5. It turns out that 2017 might have everything needed, but still can't be upgraded by the dealer. Without further proof, neither can a 2018 for that matter. Well, a lot of "maybe" on that. But the point was if the build sheet has all of that stuff, it has the basics that the tow package has. Of course, less the receiver and programming to make it so.
4. It's obvious the OP didn't have a 2.0L Turbo, so it falls into my "irrelevant" category. Again, trashed if I do, trashed if I don't.

So, thanks. I guess. Not sure of the need for either of our posts.

That sounds butthurt. Your post was capable of being taken several ways.
Was I even arguing anything? I think you took my post incorrectly and I should use more smilies.
I guess if you are constantly looking to take offense at posts they might seem offensive?

Were you previously a member on NASIOC? Thats a pretty rough place.

This is correct. I have a 2019 TH which did not have tow. Installed the OEM hitch and the "plug n play" OEM wiring harness from the drivers rear wheel well area to the hitch myself. Then had to get the dealer to activate the tow module and flash the BCM with the tow package to reflect the higher tow rating.

Works perfectly now!
