Hello everyone! I’m helping my aunt find a new suv. She don’t want to spend more then 25,000 list price. I was thinking the Cherokee would be a good fit. I don’t have any experience with the Cherokee’s. I have a Patriot and there is nothing related between them. My grandpa has a 2017 Renegade but he don’t put a lot of miles on it. Anyways would y’all recommend a 2021 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 2.4 4wd?
Only with a V6. Its quiet and smooth under all power requirements. But again everyone is different on this matter. Surprise her and take her for a test drive and see how she likes it, either with a 4 or a 6. MPG is not that much different. A 4x4 puts extra strain on the engine and the V6 is smoother with it, But the 4 is fine with a 4x4 with those considerations. A test drive will give your some quality time with her..... and her with the Cherokee.

Our V6 Cherokee almost matches our 2.4 Compass for highway economy, I imagine the 2.4 in a Cherokee is not really all that efficient of a combination. The Cherokee itself is not a competitive vehicle in MPG for it's class. The 2.4 is not there to be the high MPG option, it's there to be the cheap option, because the 2.4 is a cheap, rough, mass production motor. My guess is that the 2.0 turbo Cherokee is probably the most highway efficient Cherokee (?) and still a lot better driving experience than the 2.4. The 2.4 should be reserved for rental cars, IMO.

I’d go with the V6 too. It’s a lot more money though. You have to get the Latitude Lux to get the V6 in 2021. My aunt don’t want to spend over 25,000 sticker price. I have the 3.6 in my Avenger and it’s a great engine.

I'm at 5,000 miles so far 2021 Cherokee 4x4 Latitude Plus with 2.4 L. Fuel mileage sucks..Rated at 21 city / 29 highway, My best using the cruise AT the posted speed limit on a 400 mile round trip is 27.2 all highway. About 60% at 70 mph, 35% at 55 mph and 5% at 45 mph. So far average is around 22 mpg over 5,000 miles. I do about 1,000/week and my last vehicle a 2018 VW Passat rated at 25 city / 36 hwy got 37 average over 105,000 miles and a best of 43.8 hwy. The seat in the Cherokee is not at all comfortable after the first hour or so (I drive all day) and the U-connect is really awkward to operate requiring lots of steps to simply change the climate controls while using Android Auto. It was cheap (I paid $24179), had a bad dealer experience as they tried to charge an extra $1,289 for paint seal, fabric seal (on vinyl), a vehicle tracker and flashing brake light. They also hit me for a $698 doc fee and required GAP at $950 to get the rate through credit union which would cost me $750 in Chrysler $. Quite the bait and switch. I'll run it to probably 35K and unload it before it's out of warranty. Oh, and the lane assist will wear you out on a day long trip, it's quite a fight, luckily, it can be turned off.

It's truly a shame that "Smart Car Purchasing" has now become a science!!! Rule #1 though that has always been the rule of thumb is, negotiating the "Out the Door" price!!! When they start with the add on, hidden BS charges, you tell them what you will pay out the door, and if the salesman BS continues, tell them to go eff themselves, and walk out the door!!! 90% of the time, if you have made a fair offer, coinciding with the state of the market at the time, if they want to sell the car, you'll get a call back. BTW, right now is NOT a great time for those great deals. End of year is when the deals roll around, providing there's a surplus of inventory, which is not going to be the case this year...😎

Fully understood and I agree. Tried is the operative word. I bought it online and drove 2 hours to pick it up after work. Someone else might have been taken for a ride. I feel like I won. They added all weather mats, the brake light blinkie thingie, the "fabric sealant and paint sealant" and Like I said, I paid $24,179 all in. Over $7k off list. Sadly, that was after a very bad dealer experience.

I sat on the other side of the table for 20+ years and I'm glad I never worked for a dealer like that. My son bought a Subaru and it was a VERY different experience.

Sealants, really? On a 2021? That's an old-time scam! Was your salesman Jerry Lundegaard from Fargo?

Sorry to be late, but assuming the OP and his aunt haven’t purchased, it might help get useful answers if he explained why he thought the Cherokee was a good fit for his aunt. Sounds like getting a good deal on a new car is going to get harder, not easier...
