My 2000 Cherokee was starting to make me nervous, so after dropping it at the garage for a repair we drove over to the Jeep dealer. We drove a couple Patriot's and thought, this will do. Not a big fan of the grill (even though it's Jeep traditional) but the drive and feel were very much like my 2000 Cherokee.

Then I saw the new Cherokee in the showroom and remembered an article I read back last January about the "new" Cherokee. Up to that point I had forgotten all about it. I liked the leaked pictures at the time and seeing it in person really sold me.

I still see a black Patriot in the lot at work and it looks pretty cool. But no regrets buying the Cherokee!

Well I never considered the Patriot. I had owned 3 Jeeps prior with the last one a 04 Grand Cherokee. This time I looked at a Ford Edge, Honda Pilot, Grand Cherokee, and the new 2014 Cherokee. I had owned a 2001 Cherokee Sport off road package and loved it.
On the Cherokee I did like the styling and cockpit set up. The 4x4 system had no competition except from the Grand. The deal clincher was the available Tech Group as a stand alone option and the potential improvement on MPG over my V8 Grand.

Never considered the two littlest jeeps......there quality aren't up to the class

I looked at the GC, but decided it was too big for me and my need as I already have a RAM

Seriously looked at the Subaru Forester and Crosstrek, and the Mazda CX5, Jeep purely won out on looks, comfort, technology, price and safety

Cheers

I traded in a 2010 compass. She was great, wanted something a tad bigger and not underpowered

I did consider the Patriot and Compass to replace my 2005 Honda Element because I wanted to buy American...over the past two years, I've considered nearly every small SUV (Edge, all the Chevrolet models, even Range Rover Evoque) and even Mini Countryman and few other cross over types...But, the leaked photos of the Cherokee caught my eye...so, much to the chagrin of my fiance, I watched every on-line video, read every review I could find and kept my eye on the release date of the new Cherokee...Her cousin is the service dept. manager at a local dealership, so I pestered him with questions about the new Jeep and its release date...a few weeks after the release date, I texted him to see if there was a Trailhawk on the lot. there was, and we went to check it out in a low key, no sales guy kind of way...we did and I was hooked...a week later, we went back and test drove with a sales guy. I picked it up two days later...
my brother in law had a Patriot before trading up for a Wrangler...drove it a few times. liked it...
I actually like the Patriot look, it is modeled after the old Cherokee and I like that the Compass is modeled after the GC...
curious to see the new Jeepster and whatever replaces the Patriot & Compass...my future wife could be in the market for a new car in a year or two...

We had 2 Patriots, and 2 Compasses, and weren't considering anything but the all new Cherokee that is why we ordered. I am so impressed with the Cherokee that I even considered trading my Challenger for one, but then mine is under the cover for the winter and that might have something to do with that thought. Once I get Toxic back out in the spring that thought will pass.

Was considering the Tiguan,Escape and Crosstrek... Settled on the Cherokee TH.. I don't doubt my decision for a minute. The Tiguan was nice but needed premium gas, Escape and Crosstrek just felt cheap compared to the TH. I've had 2 previous Jeeps, a Wrangler and GC and neither gave me a single problem over the years... Always stick with what you know.

No, I did not even consider a Patriot. My final three finalists were the Infiniti QX70, Subaru Forester and the Cherokee. The Cherokee stands above all in overall value for the money and it looks really awesome!

I'm planning on getting a Porsche Macan after they release it this year. It's a touch smaller than the Jeep but you can load it with similar options and a few more such as adjustable height suspension. I'll be less likely to four-wheel it on tough trails than I would the Jeep since I won't want to bang it up, but I'll take it on high clearance forest roads. The on-road performance should be awesome, which is important to me. The Jeep will replace my Subaru WRX and the Porsche will replace my Audi S4.

I considered a grand cherokee and a ford escape.. the GC was too big honestly and the ford was a well it was a ford..

I use to own a 96 GC limited and the new GC are way too big, the new Cherokee though is about the same size if not a tad bigger than my old gc so this was a natural connection..

so far I am loving it..

I traded in a Patriot. I drove it for 91000+ miles, and was always impressed with it.... relative to what we paid for it.

The interior build quality was not anywhere close to what the new Cherokee is.
But if you are on a tight budget (as I was in 2008) then the Patriot is a reasonable option. Especially if you still need a reasonable 4x4 capability.

I owned and loved my trail rated silver 2011 70th anniversary edition Patriot. Yes, with a CVT it's surely not for everyone, but for me it was wonderful. Having all the bells and whistles put it a step or two up from my previous 2001 (actually took ownership in oct 2000) Ford Escape. When it was totaled by a rear end collision while I was stopped at a light, I was tempted to get another one, but they are showing their age and I decided to get something more modern and bleeding edge.

All I have left from the Patriot is the cool 70th anniversary cargo mat, which fits my TrailHawk perfectly, and it's Trail Rated badge which I rescued from the wreck as a momento.

I drove the Ford Edge (too cramped in the drivers seat for me), Chevy Equinox and Traverse (seemed like generic rental cars), VW Tiguan, the Subaru Forester and Outback before driving the new Trailhawk. It came down to the two Subaru's or the Trailhawk. My practical sense told me to get a Subaru but I couldn't see myself sitting in the drivers seat..

Nada! I was gonna keep my 2012 wrangler. One day while getting my oil change at the dealer, I checked out the new KL they had. Fell in love with it. Did my homework and with payment, gas expenses and insurance, I was gonna even out. It fits the bill and fits my lifestyle.

I looked at them both but their tow capacity was completely inadequate for my needs. Also I really don't like the way either of them looks.

I wasn't going to consider the Patriot (or Compass) mainly due to the CVT. I considered the Ford Escape and Edge, Chevy Equinox (parents have one), and Range Rover Evoque (too much $$ and only dealer is down in Indy--don't trust Land Rover quality that much). I briefly considered the Mazda CX-5.

The Edge was my second choice, but you seem to see them all over the place and I wanted something a little different.

Subaru outback and Jeep GC were the main two I also considered and I felt the Cherokee TH split the difference and added some to the mix.
I never have nor would have considered anything but a Wrangler or a GC from Jeep until nnow, the other little ones are awful imo.

As soon as I saw the Cherokee pictures back in July, I new I was going to get one. Ordered mine in October even before they were shipping. I knew this was going to be an amazing vehicle.

Jeep had it on their website for half the year. Must have read all the details a million times while waiting for them to release it....
