So, recently I got a bunch of alerts on my 2015 trail hawk to service my parking brake, cruise control/front collision, stop/start system and said my 4wd was unavailable. After taking it into the dealership, it turns out the e parking brake module was corroded. This leaking is coming from where the tailgate attaches to the car I have attached photos of the cracks. After looking further into it, I have noticed this seems to be a very common thing with the Cherokee model. I currently have a case going on with Jeep about this as my repair for their error is over $1700. I am looking for more people who have the same cracking in their vehicle.. this is also a warning to check and seal your crack before it gets as bad as mine. I would like everyone who has this cracking to attach a picture to help me prove my point to Jeep.

2015 Latitude noticed mine late 2016 smaller then your issue and hard to get a good picture of. I never bothered reporting to Dealer or FCA cause they don’t care and I have had way more things go wrong with this piece of junk to have to fight with it.

May I ask a question about the pictures. Just throwing this out there for discussion.
That looks to me like the paint over seam filler material has given up. I'm sure there is some flexing in the unibody frames.
If that was a crack in the welds the problem would be much worse. They did reduce the weight of the tailgate in 2019 with the newer body restyle.
You did state "This leaking is coming from where the tailgate attaches to the car I have attached photos of the cracks."
Has that crack been verified by the dealer as the cause, or is that your diagnosis of water getting to the Module.
The reason I ask. There was a problem with water getting in on earlier models ( I don't recall the exact problem.).
But there was a factory recall to repair/seal a module for water damage. That was caused by water getting into a module by the rear hatch.
Does anyone recall the exact problem?

If the is indeed a water path to the module, Time to get out the RTV Silicone as needed.

That is what the dealer told me. The welding was the main issue. The casing cracked because of the welding. The dealer already sealed it.

Thank you for your reply. I know the sealer is to fill in over the weld.
I'm glad to hear it wasn't a fractured weld.
God Luck with your Vehicle. I'm on my third Cherokee. 2014, 2016 and currently a 2019 Trailhawk.
The only Problem one I had was the 2014 Transmission Fiasco.

Those of you with these cracks, where do you live? What type of climate? Regular below freezing temps? Or triple digit temps in the summer? Just curious because I live in Louisiana, and I have not noticed this cracking on my Cherokee (yet).

Just FYI that I posted a thread about this several months ago Anyone else have cracks in their body by the rear hatch?

(Yes, it's badly worded, but whatevs)

I live in WI, so it's possible it's the expansion and contraction going on with the temps, and its stressing what appears to be bondo, or some equivalent. Or as some others have mentioned, it could be the flexing of the unibody that is causing a stress fracture.

My '13 ford had the same issue in the roof. It's pretty common on all cars these days since they went to body mastics from seam welding in panel joining...

I have the same issue, took me a while to find the provenance of the leak. Had bunch of warnings with parking sensors and other systems. Patched it and worked for a while but the cack is now back and water came back in during a road trip. I am now experiencing 4wd issues. More to follow on that one for me.
