Hello,
Not sure if this post belongs in the engine section, but I'm pretty sure my problem is in the engine bay :)
I recently turned on my AC for the first time since winter, and it doesn't blow any cold air.
Checked fuses, they are good.
AC clutch was not engaging, or only temporarily, so I assumed the refrigerant system was low/empty.
I purchased a can of R1234YF and a tap/fitting from NAPA, and added some refrigerant.
Compressor clutch was turning on, but still no cold air.
The tap/fitting for the refrigerant i purchased does not have a gauge on it, so i was hesitant to add too much refrigerant.

I assume there is a leak in the system somewhere.
I was wondering if there are any common leaks/known issues, also if i am on the right track.
anything i can look for that would be a d
i'm outside of warranty, so any help is appreciated.

Vehicle is accident free/road driven, so it is confusing to think of how a leak could have occurred in the system.

Hey there,

I had a leak on my 2015. Started year 2, they recharged it, next summer it happened again so they leak tested it, found a leak at the condensor (some valve I think, I don't recall exactly), so the condensor had to be replaced. I got it done just before basic 3/36 warranty ran out...

A forum member with a fleet of Cherokee taxis has mentionned condensor leaks are not uncommon on this vehicle...

So I took the trailhawk in today to a Jeep Dealer.
They pressure tested the AC system, and it held pressure.
However, they said the system was "bone dry" as in there was no refrigerant.
This doesn't make any sense to me.

They re-charged the system and added UV dye (all at my expense).
They told me to come back in a week or so as a follow up so they can look for any leaks.

AC is working for now, but I suspect this is not the end of my problems.

Well that is bizarre, especially since you've recently added R1234YF. Chances are they will find a leak...

Just to give an update on the events so far...
6/9/2021
Initially brought the jeep in, told them I suspected a leak.
Dealer pressure tests, checks OK.
They tell me system is "bone dry" and adds Freon w/ UV dye.
I leave and AC is working.

6/10/2021
By 5pm, AC is not working already.
Drop off the vehicle back at dealer.

6/11/2021
Dealer checks for UV dye, and can't find any anywhere.
Adds freon around 10am (2nd attempt) and runs the car for aproximately 3-4 hours.
Takes the car on a test drive.
AC is "blowing cold".

6/12/2021
Dealer checks the vehicle before calling, AC is "blowing cold"
I show up to pick up the vehicle at approximately noon.
AC is lukewarm, and oddly doesn't seem to be present on the passenger side.
I leave the vehicle with the dealer.
they call me about 2pm, they system is "bone dry" again.
No sign of any UV dye.
Now they are going to re-charge the system again, and hit all of the lines with soapy water to look for the leak.
hopefully have updates monday...

Don't take it until it's fixed correctly!!! I would be saying, I don't care if you have to replace EVERY A/C component in the whole freaking system. Cold air for two days isn't fixed CORRECTLY!!! Your dealer would hate me...😎

Why doesn't the Jeep dealer use something similar to this 'sniffer'?
This isn't rocket science, somebody at the dealership should have been to the FCA factory school and Certified as an AC Technician.
One would think that would be the case!!! Definitely not rocket science..😎
