Hey guys,

Got my new Trailhawk this past Friday, and have been extremely happy with it, but concerned a bit about city MPG. When driving in the city and accelerating on straight streets, and not accelerating hard at all, the real time MPG screen is showing between 3-8 MPG all the way up to 40MPH. This is giving me really bad city mileage. On the highway it seems to be fine, shifting into 8th without any problems. Can anyone else tell me if this is normal, and they are seeing the same thing with their Jeep? Not trying to be paranoid, just getting concerned about the mileage. Thanks.

u sure u didn't purchase a rubicon lol? It will get better in due time. computer is still trying to learn, but it does give a good guesstimate on ur current mpg. I'm halfway done with my first full tank and it did improve a tad after my first fillup.

You are talking about instantaneous mpg, yeah when accelerating its going to be pretty low. It evens out with times when you are coasting at 80mpg

Lol, definitely not a Rubicon. Currently on my 2nd tank of gas, and after refilling it, I have driven 17.8 miles with about 80% of that city driving, and it is already showing about 1/8 of a tank empty. Gonna take it out tonight and do some city driving only and see what MPG I get. If anyone gets a chance to take it out on the street and look at their instant MPG, can you tell me what you see when you accelerate going from street to street? By the way, I am in the San Francisco Bay Area using 89 gas with it being around 58 degrees outside, so I know it's not the cold temperature. Thanks.

Like I said its normal. When accelerating I show about3-4 mpgs be it city or highway. Overall mpg is what you should worry about not instantaneous.

Like I said its normal. I get 3-4 mpg when accelerating city or hwy. Average mpg is what ultimately matters, not instantaneous.

vgorcar- it will drive you crazy if you keep watching the instant fuel economy of your Cherokee. Every car has horrible gas mileage during acceleration - that's why people practice hyper mileing - eg avoid coming to complete stops whenever and wherever possible. If all you do is city driving then your gas mileage will suffer greatly but it is no different than any other car or truck. Maybe you need to look into an electric or hybrid vehicle instead?

Thanks for all your replies. Stopped watching the instant fuel economy, as it definitely was driving me crazy, just as Carefree suggested. While I understand that I am not going to get great gas mileage with this car, I'm just still expecting a bit better. Just filled up my second tank and I manually calculated it at 12.3 MPG, while the trip meter was showing 15.3 MPG. Going to take a 450 mile highway trip this weekend, so will see how it does on that. Just doesn't seem right to be that low, but maybe I'm wrong.
