It was for Recreational Active Vehicle 4 (4wd)

It was really carrying its name very well at the beginning, but not anymore !

I test drove a RAV4 while searching for something to replace a Highlander. I was not impressed with the 4 cyc engine in the RAV4. I thought the Subaru Outback was far better, and closer to what I could live with in a 4 banger.

When the Renegade launches next year, I think a few auto companies are going to have to go back to the drawing board. Jeep will have most of the market covered with the Renegade, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee & Wrangler. All that's missing is a re-into of the Wagoneer, and a properly equipped Durango can almost be considered a Wagoneer place holder..

I test drove the new RAV 4 when I was shopping for my Cherokee and they were not even close. Even in Limited dress the RAV 4 was like driving in a tic-tac box. The plastics were awful! The sale guy said that's because Toyota cares about the environment and used a lot of recycled plastics. :-/

The ride was poor, handling marginal, and noisy! I've been a long time buyer of Euro cars because of their high level of refinement and handling. At one time the Euro car and Japanese car were outperforming NA cars in all areas hands down. This new generation of NA cars and SUVs shows how far they have come.

As I'm writing this I could remember one of my earliest cars, a Datsun 510, and I remember the whole thing was so low end but reliable, the RAV 4 (although much better than the old 510) reminded me of the 510 when compared to the Cherokee.

Go with the Cherokee.

You trying to promote he lame YT channel. Had a Rav 4 as a rental when my 2014 got a new rear bumper, absolute trash in every regard. Engine was slow and buzzy, interior was cheap its sad these things cost as much as a loaded up cherokee does. Pure crap

The closest SUVs from Asia would be the defunct Pathfinder or the 4Runner, nothing smaller comes close to the capabilities of a Jeep Cherokee.

AutoTrader's Advice
Deciding between the 2014 Jeep Cherokee and the 2014 Toyota RAV4 is surprisingly difficult; both crossovers offer a range of items that we appreciate, but we'll put it this way: If you want a simple, reliable crossover with ample cargo room and reasonable efficiency, the RAV4 is the way to go. Drivers interested in thinking outside the box -- and those who emphasize gadgets over dependability -- will want the Cherokee.
Thinking outside the box.. very much yes with its inbuilt versatility. Not sure about the gadgetry though.

However I will say the TH trim model was the only one I was interested in. Blows all other compact competitors out of the water for what this thing can handle.

Wonder when Jeep will introduce 4Xe in Cherokee. Would be a cool option.
FFS, you are spamming this video all over this forum, huh?

What's next, a review of a Chevrolet Bolt EV with the tag line, "Wonder when Jeep will introduce an EV Cherokee. Would be a cool option."

Hate to break it to you, but this forum doesn't exist so you can promote your dime a dozen car review YouTube channel. We have actual advertisers on this forum like CARiD who don't spam as much as you do. 😠

You do realize that the post you are referring to is over 6 years old don't you? Things have changed in the intervening years....

Autotrader has an interesting article comparing the 2014 Cherokee to the RAV4. They focus on a few areas such as reliability and technology but curiously, exclude others like ride, interior comfort, not to mention offroad ability:wink:. Still an interesting comparison. You can read the whole thing at the link below, but here are some highlights (I do like the bolded part of their recommendations):

Reliability
Given its brand-new status, the Jeep Cherokee hasn't yet been given a predicted reliability rating by experts at J.D. Power. The RAV4, however, earned .... better-than-average reliability..... Jeep offers a slightly longer powertrain warranty: 5 years or 100,000 miles compared to the Toyota's 5 years or 60,000 miles. The Toyota, however, boasts one advantage that the Jeep can't offer: 2 years or 25,000 miles of free maintenance.

Fuel Economy
Drivers who prioritize fuel economy will prefer the RAV4, as it boasts slightly higher numbers than the Cherokee -- though the ratings are so close that we suspect most drivers will get about the same mileage with either crossover.

Safety
While both crossovers offer a long list of features .... the Cherokee includes even more, such as a forward-collision warning system with automatic braking and an advanced lane-departure warning system that will nudge the wheel if you start to drift out of your lane. As a result, we give the Cherokee a slight victory when it comes to safety.

Technology
...The Jeep also offers several high-tech gadgets that the Toyota just can't touch.....In the end, the Jeep is definitely the choice for shoppers interested in the latest technology.

I still look at old post, and even comment on them. Weird I know but other jeepers like me still stumble into old ideas and apply them today, kind of like a reference.also it’s fun just to see what you said , things have changed in over 6 years, you are so very correct! Happy Jeeping 😃

On road rav 4 off road Cherokee! I buy what fits my lifestyle and wants and needs, I don’t buy a vehicle because other people say you should buy this. I drove all four of the vehicles I own for three days each befor I bought them. Doing your homework befor you buy a vehicle but I prefer to simply test drive them. I have friends that bought vehicles just by what motor trend said, or did you see the reviews? I call those paper buyers, look what this paper said or what that paper said. I also don’t bother with vehicle awards. Do a little homework, drive it, done!

It’s odd but our Jeep club meets once a month and two weeks ago we went over all or most of old posts, most we answered, even if it was from a long time ago, we even got answers we’ve been looking for in our own rigs.kind of fun seeing how far we’ve come, we even answered questions from the past simple because there are Jeepers out there just reading Jeep stuff, from smart guys like you!
