Hey, I don't know if this has been posted yet, but I came across this interesting article about all of the complaining:

http://www.freep.com/article/20130825/COL14/308250035/Mark-Phelan-purists

What I think is intruiging is how so many people write off everything about this vehicle because of the looks. Same with the 'Vette. Like he says in there, it's a faster, much better car than the old one - the things you would think people would look for in a car - and yet they hate it because the lights are square.

That has exactly zero impact on the car itself, but they hate it.

I feel like it's the same with the Cherokee. I "liked" the Jeep page on Facebook, and it's all just people complaining. Nevermind that the new Cherokee is lightyears better in terms of interior styling, has far more tech, gets better MPGs and actually produces more horsepower than the old ones. Those are the things people should care about, but they hate...the headlights.

For all of these people who claim to know a lot about cars, they sure are bad at judging cars based on important factors. What's up with that? It sound so childish on the Facebook page, and I'm always tempted to point it out to all of the complainers, but I don't want to stoop to that level. Still, it baffles me.

Thank you for posting the article. I have been waiting for someone to say this. Personally, I really like the looks of the new Cherokee, particularly the front end. I like something that is different and stands out from the crowd, but then again I have always marched to a different drummer.

I posted something along theses lines a while ago. And I agree. People just seem to hate on anything that is NEW.

Even if its BETTER. If its a new design they don't like it.

Truth is the Cherokee looks much better in person. If it doesn't grow on people. Well too bad for them. Because if it plays through. It'll be a great car and a great model for Jeep.

If they want to hold on to their old Cherokees. Respect to them

But I think it'll be a great seller for Jeep regardless of what the enthusiasts think.

Fully agree. I could be wrong, but I think it'll sell better than the old Cherokees did. It's aimed at a wider market. You can get that TH if you want to offroad and it will rule, but you can also get a Limited if you just live in the city and want something that is safe and good in the snow or on the occasional trip to the backroads of the UP (cough me cough).

Jeep may finally have a vehicle that can effectively reach both crowds, which is an amazing feat.

It will be nice to have something that combines raw ability with comfort, tech, and modern styling, rather than having to choose between the two.

Honestly, I don't care about the looks of the Cherokee. As long as it does what I need it to do.

My Requirements:
1) Be a good DD for my wife so I get my TJ back.
2) Be a comfortable long distance travel vehicle
3) Be able to haul my teardrop, fully loaded
4) Be able to handle up to ~Class 6-7 trails.
5) Something under $30k (4 out of 5 ain't bad)

My Wife's Requirements:
1) Something that "doesn't require a step to get into"
2) Something that "doesn't have a stiff clutch" (referring to my Genesis Coupe Track)
3) Something to take the grandkids to the zoo/museum/etc in.
4) Not another Wrangler

From what I've researched, the Cherokee is the best vehicle that will do all of this.

thats how it should be, more about what it can do rather than judging it by how it looks.
the look is starting to grow on me and many others though, i bet you'll learn to love it's design a lot.

+1 for all of the above with the following changes -

1. Be a good DD for me - my wife will not give up her T&C van. She only liked my Liberty when going to crowed malls - LOL.
3. Be able to haul my boat (confirmed weight 3530 pounds)

I'd say you are getting a great vehicle... even in the looks department. In another year this thing is going to be widely accepted and lauded for "Avant Guard" styling.
I hope it kills the Honda and Toyota bland mobile mass market mall crawlers.
