Hi Guys, I've got a 2016 AD1 Altitude (white) with the Uconnect 8.4A. I'd love to get Apple CarPlay but am not expecting it as there was no promise of it when I purchase the vehicle. Nevertheless I occasionally search the Internet to see if there's any chance FCA may bring it to the Cherokee. I've stumbled on some vague info that appears FCA is bringing CarPlay to "some" 2016 model vehicles that have the fourth generation of Uconnect.
Couple of questions for the group:
1) Anyone have any info on this?
2) What constitutes "4th generation Uconnect"? Is it defined by hardware generation or by the software version running on the infotainment system?
3) Have any changes been made to the 8.4 system since 2014 MY? I hadn't read that to be the case.
4) Is there a hardware difference between 8.4A and 8.4AN or does the AN simply mean you have the navigation? In other words, if I pay for the navigation via the dealer would my unit become the 8.4AN model?
Here's the two articles I'm referring to:
http://blog.caranddriver.com/more-apple-carplay-and-android-auto-this-time-from-chrysler/
http://www.edmunds.com/car-news/fia...-chrysler-uconnect-system-will-include-apple-carplay-android-auto-2016-ces.html
They seem to imply that CarPlay, if it comes, will come in the form of a software update. They imply no FCA cars currently have CarPlay but those slated to get it will receive it via software update.
Thanks!
