What is wrong with uConnect and 9.2.x? The only issues I have are the radio switching to media whenever I plug my iPhone in to charge, and occasionally playing via BT "randomly"
That's a couple of the problems; you may also note that the "browse" is greyed out when you are connected via BT, for many they are completely unable to control their iphone via the headunit (seems worse for older devices). There are a couple of other documented glitches.

The phone part mostly works but the BT audio is borked.

They'll get it working with 9.2.1 just in time for it to break again for 9.3

I've also noticed browse is always grayed out when using my iPhone 6S Plus. For a little while the album art was showing up correctly when playing music via Spotify but has recently stopped working. Are you able to view album art consistently? Only seemed to work for me for a period of time after changing the themes, but only for a few days.

Hi all!
Well, i'm throwing a spanner in the works of all you Apple lovers:wink:

I for one hope that Car Play will only be activated if you are running an Apple. What I've seen of it trying to interface with non Apple stuff (I run Windows phone which runs superb with Fiat's You and ME in my Wife's Fiat) isn't not great. I'm kind of hoping it will only operate in 'Apple' mode when it is connected to an Apple. Android system the same. Uconnect works great for me and it even reads me my text messages :nerd:

Oliver:laugh:

that sucks Iowamatt

As far as I am aware, the units are tied to the VIN. So you have a new unit in and it tries to read the VIN but its not the VIN it is looking for hence the errors above.

The dealership can fix it however. If it was a brand new unit, they typically can flash the unit and have it working for your VIN for free. If its an aftermarket unit they might charge you labor for doing it.
Call the dealership they should be able to help you ou

@Iowamatt

Also, if the dealership that you call, say they cant help you, get a second opinion from another dealership and so on.
I was told my one dealership that I cannot activate SATNAV on my RA3. I called and went to their service center, and both times they told me its not possible. Which was bs as it can be done. So always get a second or third opinion if they say it cant be done

Huh, I've only used BT a few times for streaming audio. Which is completely odd. I purchased the NAV version of the 5" Uconnect on my Patriot because that was the only way to get streaming media via BT. With the Cherokee I've almost always got it plugged in because both USB ports act as media ports, and charge. The front face USB port on the Patriots was only for charging. You had to toss your phone into the glove box to use the USB media functions.

Well, a stroke of bad luck. Today I received the 8.4AN that I purchased off of eBay for $600. I took out my 8.4A and got all the wiring hooked up up to the AN, turned on the car and immediately it flashed "RAM" on the screen. Hmm...maybe it'll read the VIN and recognize it's a Jeep I say to myself. It finishes loading up and says "Radio Locked, Please Start Vehicle". So I start the car and wait, and then drive around the block, and still nothing. The odometer flashes my mileage off and then back on every second. I put the car in reverse and the video feed is all green and unrecognizable. I ended up putting the 8.4A back in and immediately it threw the "Radio Locked, Please Start Vehicle" error, but went away right after starting the car. I got nothing.

Here's a short video showing the odometer flashing: https://goo.gl/photos/stEHACMSS5u1Aawd9

I've also attached a few photos of the error I received. Also, while I had everything tore apart I noticed what looked like a wiring harness not connected to anything...anyone know what it goes to?
Oh nooo Matt, sorry to hear this...I was looking forward to doing the same upgrade. From all the research done, I figured it would work. Did you contact the eBay seller? Did you call Uconnect and ask them to unlock the deck? Maybe it just needs a software upgrade?

I would imagine that other connector is for the 9 speaker stereo upgrade.

No worries! In my haste I didn't consider calling Uconnect or the dealership. I may just do that. The eBay seller was cool and said if I sent it back he would refund me my money. I'd still like the 8.4AN so will likely give it one last shot by calling Uconnect first and dealership if no luck with Uconnect. Will keep ya'll posted.

Sounds good man, hopefully it's a simple fix...maybe message the guy in the jeepgarage thread too.

I just saw a video of a company that sells the upgraded unit from the 5" to the 8.4". They said if you get this message you need an OBD flasher that just fixes it. Check out this video for what I am talking about: https://youtu.be/FNN2yHRJR3U

Yes, you can purchase an RA4 on ebay and toss it in there...fast and easy.

FYI 8.4A = RA3 / 8.4AN = RA4.
How about a 2017 Uconnect from a Chrysler Pacifica? This is the newest version of the unit I can find, would the connections otherwise be the same, meaning, would it be plug and play, does anyone have an answer for this or tried it yet, I can't imagine I am the only one that wants this, I absolutely am dying to get android Auto for the purpose of screen mirroring, WAZE is the Best GPS app hands down, specifically for its counter measures and user input features.

FYI they launched the Pacifica WITHOUT Apple Carplay/Android Auto

You'd need a unit from a 2017+ Charger/Challenger/300/etc to get Carplay/Android Auto.

From what I understand Apple CarPlay and Android Auto require a higher resolution display. Believe it or not, the resolution on the '14-'16 8.4 units is only 640x480.

I would be happy if they would integrate android auto or carplay already.. the stock system is nothing but a shoddy moneygrab by comparison.

Also the resolution isnt insurmountable. They still have cheap 540p android phones.. sounds like a BS excuse.

Anyone try any after market head units? Like this one?
I don't know about that particular unit, but you'll find lots of discussion here in various threads about efforts to add either regular Car Play & Android Auto capability (if the Cherokee predates the 2019 MY), or wireless Car Play & Android Auto capability (if the Cherokee is 2019 or later). The challenge always seems to be preserving the functionality of the huge array of control systems that the Uconnect radios integrate. I would not assume that any upgrade option you're considering will be plug-and-play. E.g., you might get Android Auto working but find out that you can no longer operate your heated seats. And don't expect much in the way of customer support from these low-price vendors.

Yeah they always lose something somewhere. But I’d rather spend Uber $300 than the $1000+ and still have issues haha
