Just installed a wiring harness and tow hitch on my 2019 trailhawk. I don’t plan on pulling a heavy trailer but I’m going a long ways with it. I figured it would be a good idea to get a break controller. Is this possible to do with the after market wiring harness? There’s a spare plug by the battery that wasn’t used and I’m praying that’s what it’s for. Any input is much appreciated

I run a Tekonsha Prodigy P3, and it plugged right in under the dash I think, but I do have the factory tow package, from the factory. I had it professionally installed, and it literally took the guy 5 minutes...😎

The factory plug is behind the kick panel on the driver's side. If you have a plug by the battery, it's probably for the block heater. When you say wiring harness, did you just tap into the rear brake lights? If so, you will need to wire it for a 7 pin. It doesn't have to be factory, but you will be running wires from the front to the back either way.

Yeah I don’t have the tow package but installed a mopar hitch and wiring harness. Guess I’m asking if a break controller is even possible for me. I don’t remember seeing an empty spot on the board under the dash.

Yes here is the problem with the wiring harness that is sold for 2019+. You will need to run wiring all the way to the front of the vehicle. You CANNOT use the connector at the front of the vehicle without rewiring stuff because the brake controller signal wire is in the rear of the car if you used the official wiring kit they currently sell. If you had bought the factory wiring harness used at the production plant (a different wiring harness than the kit they sell) then you could use the connector at the front of the vehicle. The factory wiring is different than the add-on kit.

I plan to redo my wiring because of this.

If you don't plan to redo the wiring, you need to splice into the blue terminated wire in the harness you installed near the rear and run wiring to the front for that brake controller wire. Then you can probably use the existing unused connector at the front with that new wire spliced into it.

Does your camper even have brakes??? A brake controller is only needed if you are pulling a trailer equipped with electric brakes...😎
