I may be interested in throwing in. Would be awesome to see a line of KL's heading down that trail. :)

Keep an eye on this link. As of June 22 Black Bear was still closed.

I know this trip is still almost 3 months away but Black Bear is not plowed like most of the other roads in the that area and there have been years where it never was opened.

I have a trip planned for Ouray/ Telluride in late August. Several Jeeps, mine is the only TH. Any others want to tackle the 5 Badge of Honor trails in the area late August?

I will be there a month after you! Historically BBP is not open until after 4th of July. With a solid 2 months before my trip, I am not worried

I'd be more worried about erosion and damage than snow. You have no idea how much late season snow, rain, and flooding we've gotten this year in tons of areas. Even when it does open, I'm afraid of what it will look like. You should see some of the mountain bike trails I've ridden on. Have you seen Mt. Evans road? Significant portion of the road surface is gone and has to be rebuilt. And that's a road.... Can you imagine BBP if it got any narrower?!

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Telluride was beautiful last weekend. I went up as far as Bridal Veil Falls, which is the end of the 2-way before it's one-way down from Black Bear Pass. Folks in town said that Black Bear and Imogine Passes should be clear in "another week or two", but given the amount of rain we saw that weekend, I'm not sure how good that trail will be after. My guess is that it's at best soupy and at worst has some wash-out.

Here's the end of the two-way. This is the first snow I encountered; I'm guessing a few of the north-facing edges still have some build-up; not what you'd want on an already-narrow descent.

All this said, I could be interested in a September TH run.

So do we have an official time/place for the meet-up for the run on the 26th? I'm planning on coming in the day before so I vote we start early on black bear so we can have some time left over for other trails.

My group is going to hit these trails between 8/22/15 and 8/28/15. We are planing on Black Bear for 8/27/15, but can change for Ophir if other will be out on 8/26/15. Thoughts? Also, do other have CBs in order to get in touch on the trail? What channel are you planning to use? If you hear the call group "Spearhead" that will be us.

Are you a part of this event?

I'll have a CB, but figured there might be a suggested time to meet up at the trail head.

We will beat you there by a month. We head out on Friday. I will be the only KL, but all of our drivers are military trained and experienced with plenty of toys on our vehicles. I will post pictures after we return.

With a spotter its not bad, but I did leave my exhaust system on the ground. Bring some bailing wire just in case. Look under your TH right before the muffler at the S-pipe and visualize what could happen. I pushed it forward and crushed it on the suspension, but was able to rehang it with a leather belt. The "spotters" I had on board were more concerned with their bouncing boobies.

Already have a roll of twine on board, just in case. We have a spotter for the group. If I do hang up the muffler, an upgrade will be in order
