After months of research and finally narrowing down to Cherokee as the one I wanted to look at, went out this afternoon and took a test drive. Drove the Sport FFD. It is not exactly what I want, but I think it is the closest I am going to come. They do not have one on the lot with the options I want, salesman is going to try to find one for me. If he does, then we will talk price and I will have to make a final decision.

Just a suggestion and nothing else. Don't buy what you don't exactly want or at least let it be something that you won't be saying, "I wish I had waited till I found that particular thing you don't have.." This is from a man who has done that way too many times in my life time.

You know the Jeep home page has a search engine where you can search for you want too and maybe do better at another dealer. I have driven as far as 200 miles to buy in the past.

Of course you may not get as good of service from your local dealer but I know the one in my home town here gives pretty good service wherever you bought your vehicle. No shuttle service apparently whether you buy from them or not. Again not suggesting you end up buying out of town but a page you can search for yourself. I found this last TH I bought and let the dealer trade for it and then I bought it--guess that is what they are doing.

Anyhow I wish you success whatever your decision is on a purchase.

Ptram,

I understand what you mean about getting less than you really want. Trouble is , what I want does not exist. I have been researching for close to a year. I mean there is not domestic car company that manufactures one just like I want . :(
I have decided the Jeep Cherokee is about as close as I can come and decided what options are important to me. The salesman I talked with to day think he can find one like I have specified, if not I will not buy at this time.
I currently have a short base Dodge Caravan and will miss the room, but do not want anything any larger. They do not make those anymore and everything seems to be larger or smaller.
Have decided the Cherokee is a good compromise - now trying to get one as close to what I want with the available options.

Thanks

I do like the size of the Cherokee myself. I had a short base Caravan many years ago and it was s nice size also. There is just my wife and myself in the Cherokee probably 99 plus percent of the time so it is a good size for us. But like you said you don't have a lot of cargo room in the Cherokee.

I was a touch disappointed the first time my Cherokee took me golfing. The clubs don't fit in the cargo area without taking the driver out of the bag. Even then it's very close. And yes, I know I can move the seat up but like being able to pull the cargo shade over them when I'm done so I can do other things in the city (Tucson), like Five Guys Burgers, before heading home.
