That was the first time I have ever set one up and it was pretty easy. I bet it only took 2 minutes. I watched a bunch of videos on YouTube of other people setting them up so I was aware of what to expect. I mounted it with the attachments included with the slim shady. I have Yakima cross bars so it fit perfectly. But I think it will fit pretty much any bars. Round or oval it should work. The mounting kit also has keys and locks. I had just enough room on the cross bars to mount the shady on the outside of the towers.I've been looking at those, how is setup for 1 person? How have mounted?
Team OG in the house...Welcome from Utah!!!😉😎HI, I am new here this is my first post. I wanted a awning for my Cherokee but could not find many pictures of Trail hawks with a Yakima Slim Shady. So I thought I would post some of mine for others that might be looking to get one. This is the 6.5 Foot Yakima Slim Shady on my 2021 Trail hawk.

The awning is mounted on a Yakama roof rack cross bars that are attached to the OEM bars. I do not hear any wind noise or anything from the awning. Though Gas milage took a hit with the garage box and awning. I leave the awning on all summer and take it off in the winter. The reason I take it off is because the state salts our roads here to melt the ice and the salt is very hard on things, especially aluminum. Thanks for the picture. This looks slick!
I am thinking of adding a roof rack that would mount on the OEM bars. Curious if something like this awning could be added as well, or if having a roof rack would interfere with mounting this awning/shade? Any insights on your part now that you are familiar with using it?
Also, and this is probably a dumb question: Do you leave it on, or just mount it up there when going on a trip where you might use it? Is it was to mount on your bars and then take off when you don’t want it?
And finally, when the awning is mounted, do you get additional road noise when driving?
Thanks in advance for any insights you can provide.
This is GREAT information and insight. Thank you very much for taking the time to provide it. Being in Michigan, I can see using it like you. On last spring through early fall, and then take it off and store it through winter. Love that you don’t hear any road noise. The awning is mounted on a Yakama roof rack cross bars that are attached to the OEM bars. I do not hear any wind noise or anything from the awning. insite. I do like the awning. Make sure you anchor it if you have it set up in windy conditions or it will blow up potentially damaging it and/or scratching your car. Also on very hot days don't expect to pull your car in someplace and use the shade to be comfortable right away. It kinda traps the heat from the hot car and your engine. So until your car actually cools down you are better off finding shade away from the hot car.
It is not perfect and possibly not even all I thought it would be but it is easier to set up than a free standing canopy.
Do I like it? Yes. Would I buy it again? I think so. I will be using it more this summer for a portable ham radio station. It will keep some rain and sun off. Let me now if I can answer any more questions or if I missed any that you already ask.

So for clarity…this wont just connect to the OEM bars? I would need cross bars. Does it require Yakama cross bars, or does it look a bit universal to any cross bar?
To my knowledge it requires cross bars of some kind. I do not have OEM cross bars. My car only has the OEM bars that run from the front to the back. I believe you need some kind of bars running from side to side to attach the awning to. I did so I went with Yakama. The awning should attach to any of the standard bars. If you intend to put a safari type rack or a cargo box on top with the awning make sure you get cross bars that are long enough to make it all work together. I would suggest visiting some kind of outdoor store that sells Yakama and asking for assistance before spending any cash. I called Yakama and ask them to make sure everything would work together on my car. This is GREAT information and insight. Thank you very much for taking the time to provide it. That's slick and looks sturdy. I'll pass that on to my uncle. He'll start the mod projects after installing the new tires and brake pads from 4Wheelonline this weekend.HI, I am new here this is my first post.
