If you haven't, not much to bother with.....pretty much full hate-on for the Cherokee for some reason.

Apparently the interior is dated...not really sure if they've actually ever even been in one...lol
Seems a little Piers Morgan on Meghan Markle to me.........

"Plus, the angle of the wheel itself made us feel as if we were driving a bus." - do they not understand how the steering wheel is adjusted?

Take 'em out in the bush and do a full test, let's see who comes out on top......

I rent a lot of different vehicles with my job and I haven't really come across anything I would rather ride in.
The infotainment system is absolutely, hands down the best....the one in the Mazda is horrendous, you can't even use the touchscreen in motion.
I love the seats, I actually have found them to be even more comfortable than GC's I've driven.
It's why I've owned two Cherokee's

Not sure why everyone compares the Bronco Sport to the Cherokee, the direct competitor is the Compass/Renegade and from an offroad perspective the Bronco Sport is doing much better than the Renegade and Compass, factor in a proper engine (2.0T) that you can't get in a Compass/Renegade it's obvious the Bronco is a decent vehicle, compared to a cherokee not so much If I wanted actual offroad capability the Cherokee is the easy choice

Meh.

The steering wheel angle is annoying, but I've grown to live with it. (I wish it would angle down more too) I can't say that they really missed the point with their Jeep review however, I have similar feelings. My Elite has the Nappa interior, so it is a bit nicer inside, but I know friends were really impressed with the stitching of the dash and such when I first got mine. Not sure what they were doing to only 17MPGs out of it though lol, must have been lots of idling?

I guess I see the point, but the comparison/idea is a weird one IMO. I get wanting to compare the Cherokee and the Bronco in on-road situations, but not sure if a total exclusion of their off-road abilities makes sense?

It's the more closely associated. The full size Bronco is a Wrangler competitor. Like it or not, the Cherokee is only a minor difference in size to the Compass and competes in the same class. I can only imagine how much hate they would have piled on the Compass with the 2.4 multiair.

On a side note, as of February, the Cherokee nation has called on Jeep to change the name.

Car and Driver has never really liked anything American for decades.
I take anything CD says with a grain of salt. The same with the BBB, and consumer reports.
Well with all the negativity around here lately, any visitor to our forum will think our Cherokees are the biggest POS's on the planet. This is very alarming, and unfortunate. I hear this constantly from people that I've pointed our way who are interested in a KL. Truth is, every modern vehicle, from every manufacturer on the planet, all have their own issues. The days of a decade of ownership, and 250,000 miles of trouble free operations are a thing of the past. Too many systems, all constantly trying to communicate with each other, and little to no backup systems when there's a problem with one. It is what it is!!!😎

I don't visit much these days....there's a lot of negativity?
I still love my Cherokee and have often recommended one to friends or family. Inevitably people will read one of these "professional" reviews and conclude I am trying to steer them wrong. To which I just say "drive them all and make up your own mind...I did"

The steering wheel angle annoyed me too at first, but like you I adapted and forgot about it until I read this CD review.

I wouldn't call their review a 'full hate on' like the OP because they have some valid points...including several positive ones. It is strange they only managed 17mpg though, as the only time I saw that low of a figure was when I was towing.

Things like interior styling are a matter of preference. I, for example, absolutely hate the latest trend as seen in that Mazda....the infotainment screen just sticking up out of the dash, as if some kid took their iPad and velcroed it on the dash. It looks horrendous and amateurish to me, but you see them everywhere in cars now. The one in the Bronco is slightly built into the dash so it looks a bit better, but not by much. Overall, I like the interior of my Jeep and like un4gtbl, I've gotten a lot of compliments about the red stitching.

I've never seen a real 'positive' review on the Cherokee from any of the car magazines anyway, so this review didn't surprise me.

Sad but true.

It's way worse, in my opinion, over at the Compass forum ;) Feels like a new member joins every day just to make their first post about what's not working properly on their Compass. My Compass has spent weeks in the dealer service department trying to be sorted out. At this point going on four years later it is mostly sorted...

Sadly so far I cannot say that I recommend Jeep to any friends or family when they ask and I am totally honest with them. Friends have been listening to my stories and then buying similar vehicles from competing brands. If a friend asked me about how I like my Compass right now I'd have to point them square at the Bronco Sport if I'm a real friend at all.

The jury is still out on our 2020 Cherokee, wasn't too thrilled about that defective relay issue but pretty minor in the scheme of things. The current version of the Compass I can't really recommend at all unless you are willing to put up with an awful lot of stupid issues just for the big win in the looks department. The best redeeming quality of the 2nd gen Compass is its looks, its even sharper than the Cherokee...

The Compass in my opinion has just always been a "Generic" Cherokee for people on a lower budget. They're both in the Compact SUV class, but you get what you pay for...😎

Well when they say its the most uncomfortable for the driver, and then yet the most fun to drive... says it all right there. They are trying to help sell the BS, literally and figuratively :)

Also,..

You can adorn a bland crossover with all the off-road goodies you want, but capability isn't the same as character.
Do they even know what they are saying half the time?

I'm saying yes. Pure modern day marketing!!! And as for do they really know what they're talking about??? Depends on the dollar amount of the kickbacks they're receiving for the review!!! Yes, that's how it's worked for quite some time now...😎

Pick your own poison!!! LOL...😎
Absolutely true. I’ve driven the Bronco and really didn’t like it when compared to my Trailhawk. I driven the Mazda and wouldn’t even consider ever taking that off road because it’s not engineered for that. It’s great on highway, although I still prefer mine. The reason, for both, is probably because I’m comfortable in mine and not theirs. It’s purely subjective. I consider my Trailhawk a “go anywhere vehicle.” I no longer pay attention to the weather reports because I know my Jeep has got it handled, short of a pile of giant boulders on the highway it can handle anything. I have confidence in my Jeep because I’ve put it through hell and it survived. The Bronco might have (but not stock) and the Mazda never would have. And yes…the RIGHT TIRES make a monster difference. Just sayin…my 2¢ 😁

Lol. I thought that statement was ludicrous as well. What the Hell is character in a car anyway? If someone ever looked at my Jeep and said, 'I like that, it has character.' I would immediately ask them what they were smoking and if they had any they could share. ;)

I subscribe to the 3 major car magazines and every month I laugh at the letters to the editors, especially in C&D. Every fan boy of whatever vehicle they own trashes them because they are OBVIOUSLY being paid to recommend the other guy.

One month it is BMW paying them off. The next it is Audi. The next it is Mercedes. And of course GM pays them off the most for the constant coverage of the Corvette. On and on it goes...

I doubt they get paid at all, other than the fact that they get to drive all the cars for free and in many cases have long term test cars for free. They do seem to be honest when talking about their long term test cars because if they have troubles with them they sure tell you about it.

One of the the mags loved the Alfa Romeo Giulia when they first test drove it, but their long term test of it proved to be a disaster. The car was in the shop more than it was on the road. haha

The problem is that in Canada the Compass/Cherokee pricing overlaps sometimes.....and you can get a Cherokee cheaper than a compass

Yeah, that was the case before for sure.....they seem to have jacked Cherokee prices a bit now. I find comparables spread about $7-$8K more for the Cherokee these days. Mom and Dad were looking at possibly a Compass in the next year, may have to deter that...
