Anyone got an opinion on the Alpine upgrade?

I guess no one has had a chance to listen to both the base and upgraded stereos in the Cherokee, but what about other Jeep models? Is it worth the $400?

I didn't upgrade, but I listen to sports talk radio more than music, so it seemed like a waste to me. I imagine there's not that much difference, and if you really, really care about music and sound quality, wouldn't you just want to get your own aftermarket setup?
I'd rather upgrade it myself for the same price - probably get better quality speakers

good move, who wants to hear about the Wings goalie troubles in high def ;) hosts voice will crack high pitched when they realize Gus is your main man ahahahaaa....sorry, Leafs fan here;)

These stock systems are pretty good versus aftermarket and trypically come calibrated. The problem is for $400 you're not going to find something with the same quality or set up as well as from factory. I'd say to equal quality of the Alpine in the Cherokee you're looking at at least $1000 aftermarket....

Come talk to me when you've made the playoffs for the last 22 years in a row. Didn't the Leafs scrape in last year and lose in the first round? What is that now, one year in a row?

All in good fun. :D I actually cheer for the Leafs when they are not playing the Wings because, when I was a kid, I lived in the UP and the only hockey channel we got was Molson Hockey Night in Canada if we turned the antenna just right and didn't mind a little static from across the border.

when the bunny ears were still around that is when I started watching but when I got in to college I lost touch with the games but during that time yzerman and shanahan was still kickin it.

As for the stereo upgrade i'll go with the base and leave my options open for an upgrade later.

aftermarket always has better quality options for audio.

ahahahaaa ROUGH, I'll just point to our 13 banners ;) I was a big Stevie Y fan back in the day and always cheer for the Wings when the Steefs are eliminated or um not participating... FYI it wasn't a scrape 8th in the whole show ;)

aftermarket does have more options but I'm talking price. No where in the aftermarket can you find a fully calibrated and upgraded system for $400, like i said above equal quality and set up in the aftermarket is going to run you at least $1000

Good point, usually the factory audio upgrades give you the best value for your money, plus it's a case where they had sound engineers configure the whole setup, not just some guy that knows how to work a screw driver and connect some wires.

I listened to the stock audio system in a Trailhawk yesterday. Really good sound. I imagine that with 500+ watts and a subwoofer, it would only be better!

Have the Alpine upgrade...great sound...lots of range. Aftermarket is great and can blow it out better I'm sure! Nothing like being set off the lot with ready made system. I enjoy the fact that you can run a movie from and iPad/iPhone through the sound system...

I stuck with the base audio system in my Cherokee. I think it sounds good and unfortunately I'm getting used to the music choices on the XM radio band. When I get serious about audio listening, I enjoy my home audio system.

For the $400 price tag, the upgraded premium sound is well worth it IMO. I don't blast my music anymore like I did when I was younger but it's nice to be able to crank it up when a good song comes on. Rock on!!!!!

$1200 upgrade actually because you are required to get the navigation if you want the premium sound.

I wanted and have the NAV anyway, so it's only $400 for me. But I get your point.

Trust me, I wanted the premium sound but didn't want the Nav. I just use my phone. Also, dealer had mine on the lot with everything I wanted except the premium sound (and nav) and I didn't want to order.

I have been an opponent of in dash navigation until today. My brother and I were at Cosco and upon leaving were trying to find a Mexican food place in the barrio. Luckily he was doing the navigating on his phone. For the first time I thought how convenient doing navigation on the fly would have been if I was by myself. Yes, I know I could have pulled over to do it on the phone. But I'm getting older and lazier and just for a second thought how nice it would be.

What sold me on the built in Nav. aside from the bigger screen than my phone is the units ability to multitask. You can have your nav. up on one side of the screen and pull up controls for radio/climate/ect on the other. I think there was even a sort of picture-in-picture type option as well.

To be fair, I also hate having to place a cellphone/nav mount anywhere in my car. The window mounted ones are the worst to me as the little circles they leave just scream to thieves "hey! there is probably some really expensive tech in this car that you can pocket!".

Best $400 bucks you will spend. If you are upgrading from stock you would be hard pressed to get equal/better sound quality in aftermarket components (installed) for the same $400. JMO
