I am interested in getting input from anyone currently towing with their 2019 Cherokee equipped with a 2.0L I4 DOHC DI Turbo Engine and factory trailer-tow group. I am considering an Ultra Lite Travel Trailer r-POD RP-172 Unloaded Vehicle Weight of 2338 pounds. Hitch Weight: 243 pounds. Fresh Water: 36 gal x 8.34 = 300.24 pounds. With other "stuff" I am guessing around 2900 pounds of tow weight. I would be 1100 pounds under the 4000 pound max towing capacity. Even though I am well below the maximum 4000 pound tow rating, my concern is how well the Turbo handles the heat while in the mountains etc.

You shouldn't have any issues, heat was the reason why the tow capacity was reduced but with the weight you have specified I really don't see any issues .

Just a word of caution, I would recommend you weigh the trailer at a CAT Scales (or similar truck scale) to find out what its unloaded vehicle weight actually is. Many RV manufacturers do not include the weight of options added to the model when listing the unloaded weight rating so it could actually be more than the quoted 2338 pounds. I've owned one travel trailer and two fifth wheels over the past 20 years and my actual unloaded weights were always more than what the factory listed them as. I think you would still be good given the numbers you stated, but knowing the actual weight might give you a little more peace of mind. Swing back to this thread and let us know how your Cherokee handles towing your new RV. Good luck!

Did you go ahead with the purchase and have you towed with the turbo? I am interested in your experience if you have. We bought a new Jeep this summer but opted for the V6 on the advice of our dealer. Our trailer is a bit heavier then yours but still close enough that your experience would be similar to mine if I had bought the Turbo. Just curious

I am pulling a 20 foot boat close to 3800 lbs with my 2.0, so far no problems and hauls it with no issue. Transmission temp is about 72’C.

I will be towing a 2018 Impala from Boston to Philly. I have the 2.0 overland. Sounds like It will be ok. Anyone done this?

Well, the car weighs 3700-3900 lbs alone, what kind of trailer will you be using??? I think that's pushing the envelope for any Cherokee, and I wouldn't recommend it, even with the lightest possible dolly setup, you're going to be well over the maximum towing parameters, and with that much weight, and no functional trailer braking, I again, would not recommend it, even for someone with extensive experience, and skills in towing stuff...😎

Just a dolly carrier. I have done it before from Tx to DC. I hear ya.... Might just drive it back to save trouble. Damn the gas prices. Thanks.
