Had an accident on Friday. Airbags were deployed but I was ok (the other vehicle was a big pick up truck so they were just fine as well). But my 2019 TH not so much and will probably be totaled.

Been thinking what to get next but haven't come up with anything yet. I love this car but it's so expensive now and I don't know how I feel paying close to $50k for something similar to what I got for $34k 4 years ago, for a car that's about to be discontinued and is barely being made anymore. I had some competitors as rentals in the past (Rogue, Sportage, Escape) but they were all $h!t compared to my car. Grand Cherokee seems to be pretty nice, but might be too large for a single guy who appreciates agility and ease of parking. Wrangler is super capable and was a blast as a rental, but for a daily driver I'm looking for comfort and luxury that it can't deliver. What else is there? Maybe I should be thinking about getting an Audi or something, I don't know.

Glad everyone's Ok.

Hard to say with 100% confidence from that picture just how much damage there is (sub frame damage, engine, streering/suspension, etc..), but with airbags it's going to be $$$ for sure.

Hard to say what might please you. Audi, as in SUV or car ? Maybe look at Subaru, for comfort and agility, for less money than german machines...

I don't even know what exactly I'm looking for. The Cherokee TH just seemed to have everything, minus some "practical" considerations, so I didn't have to pick and choose. Comfort, luxury, this tough/hefty feel, all terrain capability, design, powerful engine, technology. Actually back then the Forester was the other contender and was pretty decent, but it felt meh in comparison to the Cherokee. I want another SUV because I like the extra ground clearance and feel of the suspension, so the Audi Q5 comes to mind. It is indeed a lot of extra $$$, so trying German cars is more of a last resort for me.

When my wife wrecked my 2017 Cherokee Limited I replaced it with a used 2019 Trailhawk. I just use mine for a grocery go getter and winter beater. it is nice, I would stick with these and whatever their replacement vehicle is going to be but I really don't care about off road or anything like that. I really wanted a Grand Cherokee 4Xe or Trailhawk they had on the showroom floor but I could not convince the wife to trade in her Challenger (it's in my name but I am not having that fight). I only wanted 1 car payment in the household if I was going to spend that much for a winter beater.

Glad everyone was ok after the accident. Your closest match within a reasonable price would be a Grand Cherokee. Similar many ways and better in others. Offers a V8 as an option along with a more heavy duty 4x4 system than the KL. No weak PTU in the GC. Personally the only German brand I would ever consider is Mercedes-Benz specifically the ML350 the V6 in those is super reliable. BMW and Audi just have so many issues and all are $$$ to fix. Audi is just a high end VW and they cannot build a reliable vehicle. As for other automakers you could consider a Toyota 4 runner, Honda passport, or a Ford bronco sport. All similar in capability to the KL. Little bit less towing on the bronco sport but similar in capability otherwise. The 2.0 Ecoboost has been around a long time so most of the bugs are worked out. Personally I would avoid Subaru their CVT transmission is not built for hard use and cvt's in general are a weak transmission design on any vehicle that has them. Nissan and Subaru use CVT's in alot of their vehicles.

I wouldn't hesitate buying another KL, discontinued or not. It was built in large numbers for ten years. New or used parts should not be an issue in the foreseeable future. You may be able to get a good deal if you can find a new leftover 2022 TH.

How about if you test drive a Grand Cherokee to see how you like it ~ I drive both a KL & a WK2, love them both, but I like the WK2 just a bit more, it's bigger and more comfortable. Then again, I'm almost 70 and a little more in favor of the comfort side life.

OP appreciates agility and ease of parking. Big Bronco doesn't tick any of these boxes.
I parked next to a small Bronco yesterday, and that thing looks dinky! LOL
I think Ford built it as the answer to the Renegade! :ROFLMAO:

Thank you everybody! I've been doing some more thinking and as far as priorities, I got spoiled by the Cherokee when it comes to comfort, luxury, technology, and I don't want to take a step back in my next vehicle. Capability is nice, but can be sacrificed. So something like a 4Runner is a non-starter, and from the little that I know the Broncos are not quite there either. That's why the GC and Q5 look tempting (but on the flip side could spoil me even more than I am already..) though they are more $$$ and the GC seems kinda big, and I have no experience with German cars to know how reliable / expensive to keep they are.

I may give the Forester another look, my previous car was a Subaru with a CVT and I got over 200k miles on it without any transmission issues. However, from what I remember it could feel like a step back, and what about those non-LED turn signals (OK I'm being petty here). Maybe I'll just end up getting another KL..

Looks done for in my opinion. People way underestimate the cost of repair. Here is a picture of mine (no air bags went off and no major frame damage), and it cost $9000 to repair

The Q5’s are a very nice ride, and Audi cockpit digital displays are some of the best in the automative world IMHO. The tech and comfort and premium fit are top notch. And their AWD system is awesome. Size is also along the lines of what you are looking for.

I had BMW X3 before my current TH, which had a much more sporty ride than the Q5, but the Q5 beat it in comfort (which is what I should have went with at that time). If I could turn back time a few years, I think I would have went with a Q7 instead of the BMW, but hindsight…

IF you stay up to date on Audi’s maintenance schedule, the Audi’s are very reliable. The problem is their recommended maintenance is VERY expensive at certain intervals. Something to drill down on in advance so if you get one, you are prepared. BMW was pricey with its normal maintenance, but Audi is even more. You really have to keep up with their recommended maintenance as they are very tightly tuned, and blowing that off causes big problems later in the vehicles life.
