AM Radio Reception

AM radio reception on my KL can best be described as 'marginal', with frequent fading-out of signals. FM & SXM are fine. I put it down to the stubby 'rubber duck' antenna the factory put on the roof being too short for decent AM reception.

Anybody successfully improved their Cherokee's AM performance?

Never listen to AM, but on my Jeep the FM reception is the worst I've ever experienced in a vehicle. A new antenna did not help either. My guess is that it is the tuner itself and not an antenna problem.

But antenna's are cheap, so it might be worth a try for you even though a new one didn't help my FM reception.
AM? Hmmm... AMerican? I know! Application Manager! ...or is it After Market? I think there are a few more but I'm Absent Minded.

With all the talk about AM radio going away and car manufacturers not even offering it, I'm actually surprised there are people (at least 2 by this thread's count so far) still using it.

Make that 3… , I just the other day tuned into my old favorite news station with traffic reports every 10 or 12 minutes. Note : I think that was the first time sconce I got the Jeep . I didn’t have any problems.
I think the last time I listened to AM radio, this guy was still on the air...😁😎

Re: AM radio reception on my KL can best be described as 'marginal',

Meaning?

a. AM on your Cherokee is marginal
b. AM radio in general is marginal
c. both 😂

Meaning AM on this KL is marginal compared to most every other vehicle i've owned.
My only AM station (news, weather, traffic) comes in fine. If it gets static or fades, I listen to it via iHeart Radio.

I love AM radio. It's amazing the variety of music you can hear in the city. Music from around the world played on local low power stations. Two or three times a year (at night) I enjoy manual tuning the whole dial for "skip". You can pick up station from around the county. It's fun listening to those local commercials ( or station I.D.) to figure out where the broadcast is from.

My AM radio works fine but I have thought about upgrading the antenna. Following.

The Uconnect system is just flaky. There are times, for example, that I will be listening to XM radio at a moderate to loud volume and then I'll switch to FM and I can barely hear it, the sound output is so low. Stop and start the car and then the sound output on FM returns to normal. Go figure....

No One of my friends turned me on to WCMF a local FM Rock station and that was all she wrote.

Remember the little FM radio you mounted under the dash on the older cars that only had AM?
