Google opened it up to Android 10 last year in a patch. Not sure on Pie from the phone update (Google Pixel and S20 here, so haven't seen Pie in years), but you could do this way (the S8 is in the list):
Nice! Thanks for the tip. I haven't been on XDA in years (except to get obd2AA), but used to frequent there quite a bit to get my compulsive ROM flashing fix back in the day! 😄

Edit: The wireless projection option is indeed available for me in the AA Dev Settings. Can't wait to try it out someday.

Thought I'd point you guys and girls to another option, too.

Looks a bit nicer than AAWireless, if I'm being honest. Would like to see a comparison of how they perform.

Therefore, I can't use a VPN (it can't authenticate since that wifi network doesn't have internet), and if I use a hotspot from my phone, it won't transmit data as it's trying to pull from that network.
Thanks for the review. I wonder if you can set up IFTTT or Tasker or Bixby routine, or whatever, to turn off your VPN when connected to that specific network, and then turn it back on when disconnected? Not exactly elegant, but it might do the job.

Thanks -
I guess I miss the point on this then, if you have wifi turned on, then cellular data is off, so you have no data connection while connected.
Glad I found this out before I ordered one, I had wanted this so I could use google maps without charging the phone.
That's not necessarily true. Android can still use cellular data while connected to wifi. In fact, Android even lets you select apps to prioritize cell data over wifi on an idividual basis. Although I don't have the device yet, I'm positive the designers wouldn't make it so you lost your data connection when connected to it.
