Seems they left out our 3.2L
The complaint is very specific and does not include the Cherokee. Odd since the 3.2L uses the exact same part numbers for the lifters, rocker arms, and valves that the 3.6L uses. However, I suppose: "including the engine control module (ECM) software that controls the precise timing and function of the lifters" might make a difference?

Don't know if they could just add the 3.2L if people bring it up to the lawyers.

I found this in the complaint (page 35). VERY interesting!!

FCA acknowledged it monitors such complaints on www.JeepCherokeeClub.com, on April 4, 2016, and assuring consumers that online customer complaints would not merely be a blip on FCA’s radar, instead FCA personnel would actively “monitor a myriad of FCA brand forums” to ensure customer satisfaction and resolution of issues

As far as I know, the 3.2 is identical except for a slightly smaller bore (91mm vs 96mm for the 3.6L).

There is a 3.0L Pentastar as well, for some chinese and russian models (GC, Wrangler and 300C), with the same bore as the 3.2 but a shorter stroke.

But anyway... 99.9999% sure the valvetrains are identical, the 3.2 suffers from the same needle bearing failures as the 3.6s
Lawyers need complaints, in this case engine specific. As of now, the 3.2 is below their radar...

Yet they specifically call out this forum (with the 3.2L and all) as proof that "FCA" monitors forums for customer complaints.

One would think someone at the law firm would have actually looked at "JeepCherokeeClub.com" to see what model that forum applies to. Either they should have known that the Cherokee is NOT in the listed models in the complaint, or that the Cherokee has a different engine (albeit very similar) that is listed in the complaint.

As a side note, I did have to look up that "FCA US LLC" is still a valid company name as opposed to using "Stellantis" in the complaint. However, in at least one case they use the Stellantis name without explaining who that is relative to FCA other than a "media outlet".

Sloppy lawyering at best. They need to evaluate their legal aide staff.

Edit: Would think that "FCA US LLC" makes the suit US-specific. Maybe the rest of the world can build on this case if it is successful?

I've never had a mechanical problem with the 3.2L Pentastar. I owned a 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk for six years and almost 100K miles before the transmission (the second one in the car) went and I threw in the towel on it. I got my 2020 Trailhawk in March of 2020. Like I said, no mechanical issues, but these things definitely lack in power. Although, I think that might have more to do with the 9 speed transmission than the engine. The tranny just sucks the life out of it. It can't get out of its own way and it severely resists downshifting. Even when it does downshift, it's all show and no go. Makes a bunch of revvy noise but there's no accompanying acceleration. I like the car, but hate the drivetrain.

FWIW, a buddy of mine is an ASE Master Tech at the local CDJR dealership. He has been there for over 10 years and when I asked hime about the rocker issue on the Pentastar engine, his response was; "We have seen a few 3.6s and I can only recall one 3.2 with the issue. They have far more Hemi lifter failures than with the Pentastar."

I picked up a 5.7 for my hot rod project that had one of the MDS lifters fail. The needles in the roller self destructed and wiped out the came. I rebuilt the engine without MDS. This engine also had abnormal wear on some of the rocker tips and tips of the corresponding valves. I showed this to my buddy and he had only seen that once before and it was caused by running the engine low on oil. You can see the wiped cam lobe and lifter below.

2015 Cherokee TH. Had loud tick tick tick around 80k. Metal bits in oil filter. Rollers and cams wiped out. Jeep fixed them for free. Only other issue has been a cracked radiator. Now at 196k the engine surges off and on at idle and low speeds. It is not continuous and intermittent. Just drove over 400 miles and it ran fine. Then the surging started again. Thinking something electronic or fuel system related. No dash lights. Any ideas?

On the Challenger site no complaints on the 3.6L used in the Challenger, the only difference is the displacement between it and the 3.2L. My wife loves the 3.6L in her AWD Challenger. I am liking the 3.2L in my Cherokee better than the 4 cylinder the last one had.

so that's why everyone complains when they have to replace the alternator.... Wow, learn something new everyday.
