Looking to buy a wrangler, or cherokee trailhawk , 3.6 pentastar or 3.6 pentastar engine. Honest opinion are they good engines? can they be trusted? Will they last 200K miles? I don't care about anything else, but I don't want blown engines at 40K miles. Been in different forums, and some , like tesla are fanatics. I am seeking honest opinion about buying a wrangler or cherokee or grand cherokee. Year 2019 -2021
Hi there.

I have the 3.2 in mine, 70+K miles. It's not a perfect engine. There are known issues with the valvetrain, more specifically rocker roller bearing failures and some valve seat issues as well. Such problems are not 'common', but we see them on the forums. If out of warranty, they can be costly repairs ($2-$3K).
There are oil cooler problems too, they are flimsy and prone to cracking/leaking. Haven't had the problem on mine, we see that usually at 70+K miles, though some see it early (especially when oil filter housing cover is overtightened).

Other than that, it's a decent engine, I think.

so based on that, guy told me two things
1. 2T oil change is more than v6.
2. 2T also need premium fuel than regular gas.
V6 he said been around for long . All the stalls that were happening happened on 2T , so he , as a salesman said to go with V6. Not a pushy guy..

Discussed ad nauseam on this forum, no need (I insist) to ignite this again here.

2.0T oil change doesn't cost more, it doesn't require premium, but it is recommended for certain conditions, and the stalling issues were due to crappy relays being installed at the factory on all engine option Cherokees, and probably still are...😎
Ok, you're fired ! Step away from that keyboard...

Hehehe. The 2.4L rules :p

The complaint is very specific and does not include the Cherokee. Odd since the 3.2L uses the exact same part numbers for the lifters, rocker arms, and valves that the 3.6L uses. However, I suppose: "including the engine control module (ECM) software that controls the precise timing and function of the lifters" might make a difference?

(y)

I found this in the complaint (page 35). VERY interesting!!

FCA acknowledged it monitors such complaints on www.JeepCherokeeClub.com, on April 4, 2016, and assuring consumers that online customer complaints would not merely be a blip on FCA’s radar, instead FCA personnel would actively “monitor a myriad of FCA brand forums” to ensure customer satisfaction and resolution of issues
As far as I know, the 3.2 is identical except for a slightly smaller bore (91mm vs 96mm for the 3.6L).

There is a 3.0L Pentastar as well, for some chinese and russian models (GC, Wrangler and 300C), with the same bore as the 3.2 but a shorter stroke.

But anyway... 99.9999% sure the valvetrains are identical, the 3.2 suffers from the same needle bearing failures as the 3.6s
Lawyers need complaints, in this case engine specific. As of now, the 3.2 is below their radar...
