Here's a quick blurb on my impressions after almost 2 months of ownership.

My overall impression is mostly positive. I use the Trailhawk as my daily driver
for a 20 mile one way commute, with mixed highway and 'suburban' driving. Inside
is a nice place to be. Seats are comfortable, ergonomics are very nice, with most
controls within easy reach. The abundance of driver assists are sometimes intrusive
to the driving experience, but I'm learning what's useful, and when to use it. I have not
had a lot of back seat passengers, but everyone I did have back there were quite
comfortable. The cargo area is more than adequate for a 2 person household, and
fits most everything we normally 'haul' from the stores.

There are a few negatives, as in any car I've ever owned. These include:

- The quirky lane assist, which works when it wants to, and tells me to put my hands
on the wheel on straight roads (when they are on the wheel). That's rarely turned on.
- The auto dimming mirror that dims only when a small sun is right behind the car.
To be completely honest I never had an auto dimming mirror I liked.
- The hands free tailgate activates when you're loading/unloading at the tailgate.
I've disabled that feature too. I'm thankful I can. I use the KEYFOB.
- Both front lower seat covers are coming off due to bad clips that attach under the
seats. These covers are on backorder at the Dealership, so they'll be replaced
eventually. Pretty early on for this sorta thing, but it could be worse.

As for the Positives:

- Very comfortable. The interior is a very nice place to be. I'm 6'5" tall and
have plenty of head and leg room (no sunroof on my Cherokee). Though I've
heard the seat is too high from some reviews, I don't think it's so.
- Lighting... Interior that is. Lots of it. I really like the ambient lighting.
It's a nice touch.
  • The UConnect system has worked quite well, and is easy to learn and navigate.
  • Handling is better than I expected for a vehicle of this size. It's actually fairly
engaging. In all fairness it's been 20 years of 'driver's cars' for me, so my
expectations were actually pretty low for the Cherokee. A pleasant surprise.
- The Active Drive Lock System has been trouble free for the few times I've used it.
I've only had a go in some sugar sand/wet sand to date, but the controls work well
and the system itself seems very capable.

I can say that I'm quite pleased with my 2021 Cherokee Trailhawk. It seems to grow
on me as time goes on. That's a good thing!

Are you saying your hands-free tailgate starts closing while you are close to the rear hatch doing stuff? Something may be wrong, I’ve never had that happen even once.
While I'm unloading groceries, the tailgate has tried to clobber me twice, thankfully it has that
warning chime. It also came down on me as I was doing something on the rear deck. Funny
thing is, it takes 3 or 4 tries to get the thing to open/close when I want to use the feature. It's
just quirky, and for me, not a needed feature. By no means a deal breaker.

You are probably just standing too close to the center of the bumper. I have not accidently triggered it while getting things out before, but I have triggered it plenty of times hooking up a trailer. Usually happens when I am hooking/unhooking the chains.

You’re right. It’s where I’m standing, unfortunately I will keep going into the ‘concussion zone’ because it’s the best place to be, so I’ve disabled the feature.

Having the sensor to one side of the tailgate seems smarter, because you’re pretty much out of the way of the door swing zone. But now I’m nitpicking, and it’s really not that big an issue. 😁

I've had my 2021 TH for a couple of months, too. It's my daily driver and has about 3400 miles on it. My "reviews" are also overwhelmingly positive! I agree that the auto-dimming mirror doesn't do much. My old 2005 Caddy had one that really worked. The driver's side Blind Spot Monitor occasionally sees a ghost. I'll have that checked when I take in in for an oil change. Overall, it's a pretty nice vehicle!

I am generally a fan of he automatic “nanny” stuff unlike some people. My biggest complaint for the automatic stuff on the 2021 TH is the auto bright/dim headlights. The low beams aren’t impressively bright anyway, but the auto dimmer will insist on staying with them if there is any faint light anywhere in your forward field of view. It is a rarity to use the brights for any length of time. I haven’t driven at night for a long period very often, but I suspect when I do, this will be turned off!

on the other hand, I haven’t had any complaints about the auto-dimming mirror! :)

Agreed. I quickly disabled that, and just use them manually. The lane assist also stays off, don't need that anyway, I'm paying attention to the road when I'm driving, and it always seemed to follow the asphalt seams in the road, better than the actual painted lines most of the time. Wish the ESS would stay off indefinitely when you push the button, like that does...😎

Yeah a lot of the automatic stuff in the Jeep is not good, but luckily the adaptive cruise is really good. I've also disabled the automatic lift gate, lane keep, and auto headlights.

The install for the Auto Star/Stop eliminator is really easy and is not permanent.

I don't have an auto dimming mirror in my Cherokee, but I agree that I've never had one in a car which worked well.

I was also pleasantly surprised with how much I like my Cherokee, especially in the comfort department. I love the seats in it and I've had passengers who owned 'luxury' type cars remark about how the seats are more comfortable than theirs.

By the way, do you have lighted cup holders in that 2021?

Yes, the adaptive cruise control is pretty good, if you keep its use to highway driving.
Anywhere there's left or right turn lanes the ACC will try to stop you for the car in the turn lane, especially
if there's a curve in the road... On the interstate it's awesome.

The seats are what sold me on it. It already had all the features I wanted and as soon as I sat in it I knew it was my car.

No Lighted Cup holders in my 21 Trail Hawk.
Thanks, I was just curious. From previous discussions on the forum here it appears that the early builds of the 2019 models had it (mine does) and then they just stopped for some reason.

My ‘16 TH has ZERO creature comforts/tech options but the 4x4 system and the comfy seats have made it probably my favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned. I’ve never had a vehicle I can sit in for multiple hours without having low back pain… I’ve had an Audi with all sorts of seat/lumbar adjustments, tried different cushions, etc… but something about the shape of the TH seats is just perfect. They also have that nice leather feel but at the same time the cloth bottom keeps my butt cool during 100 degree summers. Perfect!

your guys TH have the sensor below the bumper that auto opens and closes the tailgate? My 20 doesn't have that, wish it did sorta.
