Don't they have warranties on batteries in Canada? Most here in the U.S. have at least 2 years, with higher end ones going as long as 5 years...

The dealership said the original battery swelled so he replaced it for free. Then gave me what i thought was a new battery that lasted 1 year. I do not trust the dealership any longer. Its just sad the amount of money i spent on this jeep and the 7 year warranty for this to happen just freaks me out

Guess who’s back 🫣

About a year ago I posted about my dead battery in my 2020 Jeep Cherokee. Well guess what? That new battery they replaced a year ago just died this weekend. So that is 2 batteries in my jeep not quite 3 yeas old. I have been waiting for a boost for 5 hours now 🥺

i did purchase a new CTbattery and waiting to go to the dealership tomorrow. I just feel so defeated and being taken advantage of. The new battery is the AGM battery and cost me 330.00.

is this normal ? Is this normal I would go through 2 batteries in 3 years?

😢😢😢😢😢
Hey Tina,

You have a 5 year warranty on that Canadian Tire battery... Bring the old one in with your receipt, they'll give you a new one.

Sorry I posted before I saw your above post. So the battery you have now is a Mopar battery ? If so, they have their own warranty, at least 2 years full replacement. They can't charge you for a new one... and yes, the Canadian Tire battery (same as Mopar) has gone up in price, it's $299 now (+tax), that would be $344 for me in Quebec (minus $20 if you bring the old one in). Get free warranty batteries for as long as you can...

Shouldn’t the battery last longer than one year? It’s pretty embarrassing when I can’t leave my home because my jeep won’t start when other people around me in my neighbourhood are driving pieces of crap cars and they can come and go as they want. Like I said I don’t trust the dealership anymore can I make them put in the battery from Canadian tire and not charge me to do it? I am due for an oil change anyways which I pre-paid so I might as well just go there have it towed there I mean and tell them about the battery issues tell them to put in the new battery that I purchased and do the oil change

It depends on the dealer... Mine will put in parts I bring in, but others won't do it. There is no official rule on this, it's dealer discretion...

Should your battery die in a year ? No way. There are 2 possibilities : defective battery or something in your Jeep draining them abnormally.
If you don't drive the Jeep much or just drive very short distances, that can really shorten battery life, but not down to one year... But if you have added accessories like a dash cam or audio amp, and they have been hooked up to a live 12V wire, they can drain a battery quickly.
That said, I doubt you've had 2 defective batteries in a row : it's possible... but statistically highly unkikely.
If you have no accessories that have been added, don't play music for an hour with the engine off, etc... then I don't see how your batteries only last one year. Especially in Canada with our colder climate, batteries tend to live a bit longer, compared to those who live/drive on hot zones (like Arizona, Florida, Saudi Arabia, Northern Australia, etc...).

Bulge in a battery means it is frozen. They freeze when severely discharged, in winter. Frozen battery is a dead battery.

Maybe ask you r dealer before you show up if they will replace your dead battery for free before you call the tow truck. They might even cover the tow truck... If not, then ask them if they'll install the CT battery for free at least (it's a 10 minutes job).
Nobody around you able to install a new battery at home ?

Yes I installed the dash cam
I just drove it Friday morning with no issues
Then it wouldn’t start on Saturday not even a click I couldn’t even open my door I actually had to use the key to get in
I asked the dealership the last time I was in to see if anything was draining the battery and he says there was nothing it was probably just a bad battery so now it’s 2 bad batteries?
I have roadside assistance so I’m not worried about having it towed

Dealer may be clueless about something draining power ; they have to test for this. Just between you and me, dash cams are often a problem, because not everyone knows how to hook them up properly, for power, and some pepole don't understand how a dash cam can drain power if is it set up to activate when the vehicle is not running. This can kill batteries, fast... Dash cams can be hooked up to get power only when the engine is running, but the installer and car owner have to discuss this and be sure you (car owner) knows how it operates, how it can drain your battery, etc...

Mine is on its 2nd battery in three years and when it was replaced the second time after the first one was cactus the battery supplier told me that the heat killed it. Bad battery location and poor ventilation in a cramped engine bay and not helped by year round 34 degree days.

My dash cam only comes on when the engine is running. Hopefully i can get to the dealership tomorrow and ask them again to check if anything is draining my battery

Good.

And just to be 100% sure here : who installed the dash cam, and are you 100% certain it only gets power when the engine is running ? I'm insisting because, right now, I have a feeling... and also nothing else to point at but this dash cam, hahaha...

My father installed it. It gets power from the cig lighter and it doesnt turn on until i turn on the jeep. The minute i turn off the car the cam light turns off

Thanks. I'll have to study this (tomorrow ;) )

Just curious : which cig lighter outlet ? The one up front or the one under the center armrest ?
That cam has Parking Mode so, if wired accordingly, will trigger when the engine is turned Off.. You would likely know about this because you would have recorded events from when the Jeep was resting... I just don't know what triggers Parking Mode though.

Hi @Mark_ , the front two outlets (armrest and next to media hub) are switched with the car ignition only. The rear outlet in the cargo bay is the one that can be switched from ignition to direct-to-battery by moving the under-hood fuse. If the car cam is using a cigarette lighter plug (do they still call them that today) and not hard-wired, it shouldn't be draining the battery. Agree though, sounds like a drain somewhere....

Hmm. Pretty sure my under armrest 12V outlet is Live. I'll check later today. I have a 2015.

This sounds like possibly a corroded ground strap, or a bad connection and or ground. Engine cranks, but no other power is definitely a first, and very strange...🤔😎

So i got a boost and have waited 45 minutes. Nothing turns on in the jeep. No lights, no turn signals, no radio, no heat. So where do I go from here?

Stopped the car and restarted, still no lights or heat but now the engine light is on

😳
Hey Tina,

Since you have a 2020 and you mentionned yesterday that the Jeep wouldn't even 'click' when you tried to start it, I have to wonder if you're not one of the few unlucky 2020-21 Cherokee owners who got a bad Run/Start relay. There was a bulletin issued for this a while back, and we've had a few forum members report issues similar to yours, and the relay was bad. Jeep dealerships are supposed to be aware of this, and the bad batch of relays only effected some 2020 and 2021 Cherokees. I'll attach the service document below, I suggest you let the dealer read it.

Thanks, forgot all about this one.
Refer to: FCA RAM Post #93 and several other Posts.
And this one: Remote start not working when really cold out 2020 Hawk
Search this Forum for "denso", there are several other Posts.
In the meantime charge your battery with a good AGM battery charger using the 10A setting.
It the battery won't take a charge it is definitely no good.
