I purchased my Jeep brand new and had no issues until this week. My battery drained and unable to start. I had towed to dealership and they said the battery just needed a full charge. Granted it has been a very cold start to winter here in Ottawa ON but still I never expected my Jeep with less than 18000 km not to start. I was charged 98 dollars to charge the battery. This morning I went to start my jeep and again it won’t start. I am so frustrated I don’t know if I should just go and buy a brand new battery somewhere else or have it towed again to the dealership and ask them to find out what is going on with my jeep. I purchased extended warranty for seven years on this vehicle. Should this be happening to a less then two year old brand new jeep? Any advice would be appreciated. I’m feeling so frustrated and have lost all trust with the dealership 😱

Unfortunately an original battery that is 2 years old is very likely to fail.
Some batteries need to be replaced under Warranty.
There are a few on this Forum who's battery has lasted 5 years, but they are in the minority.

Ask @mark_ what battery to buy in Canada and where, I think he is near Ottawa.
What you are looking for is a thin plate Group 94R AGM battery.
Generally I like to let my Jeep dealer install my new battery so if there are any issues they can deal with it.
When they get it all done see if YOU can twist the cable clamp on the battery post.
If you can twist the clamp they didn't do the job right.
Somehow I don't have a lot of confidence in your Jeep dealer. Ask Mark if there is a shop he recommends.

Just visited Ottawa on GoogleMaps. Check this store: Total Battery, 1151 Newmarket St, Ottawa, ON K1B 4N4, Canada
Also, NAPA stores sell batteries, See if your CAA membership will get you a discount.
It has been a really long time since I visited Canada so don't necessarily believe anything I say about Canada.

Probably you bought the Jeep off the lot, no telling how long it was sitting around and not getting the battery charged.
Maybe it is finally catching up with you.
If you live somewhere, where you can use a battery charger, it might be a good investment.
It will be expensive, but get one that will charge an AGM battery. NAPA has real good ones, about $300 US.
There might be something tricky about charging a battery that has IBS, I don't know the answer.

My X2Power AGM battery needs to be charged about every 5 days.
Turn your ignition to RUN and don't start the engine, find the EVIC screen that displays battery voltage, it should be at least 12 volts.
If you think the battery discharges too quickly look for things that are still drawing power; dash cam, glove box light, cell phone, trunk light, something plugged into the trunk cigarette outlet, etc.

Tell us more about your Cherokee.

Hey Tina, welcome to the forum :)

Oh man that sucks ! Some dealerships...

You will need to talk to the service manager this time. Tell them you need a new battery under warranty and that they also need to credit you the $98 for a wrong diagnosis. I'm not sure they'll agree to this but you can try. Get them to confirm they won't charge you for diagnostics again before you bring it in.
Chances are you have a defective battery.

it was the service manager that told me it wasn’t under warranty 😱. I don’t understand what a warranty is for then. I paid 4500 for 7 year warranty but they managed to get me for the recharge of the battery. Like I said I have lost all faith in the dealership. I plan to go tomorrow with my father to buy the top if the line battery. If that battery fails then I will know it’s something else in my Jeep that is draining the battery

I don’t have anything plugged in. I remove the charge cable for my phone every night. I never installed the dash cam either all I am certain is they charged my battery for 2 hours on Wednesday. I drove it home. I went out on Thursday and Friday and this morning it’s dead as a doorknob 😳

Thanks for the update. Sounds like the battery to me.
When you buy your new battery get the manufacture date, Warranty date, Brand name, model, serial number, part number and CCAs off of the label. This information is needed when you get your battery tested later so they can better assess the remaining useful life of your battery. Once the battery is in the blanket you can no longer see this information.

My original battery lasted 14 months. It's best to just go purchase a premium AGM battery, and have it installed. Most all come with 3-4 year free replacement warranty. Stock batteries are not that great to begin with. Good luck, and keep us posted...😎

Oh wow! I asked the service manager if I should just go ahead and buy a new battery and he said I didn’t need to it just needed to be charged

I really think they see me coming and just stick it to me

I will keep you posted tomorrow when I buy the new top-of-the-line battery and like I said if the new battery drains on me next week then I’m going to know for certain it’s something to do with the vehicle

Tell him, good batteries don't need to have to be charged. Doesn't matter if you only drive it 10 miles a week, and it's -40° outside. He obviously doesn't know what he's talking about...😉😎

Do you know if they load tested it. I would also have them do a parasitic draw test . I've seen some suv s batteries die and it turned out to be the rear wiper motor with an internal short. and demand your money back as it should be warrantied on a new car

I don’t know what they did all I know is I got a call from the service manager that said my battery was severely dead and they re-charged it and now I’m going to have to pay because it’s not covered under warranty

I am telling you they see that I am a woman and they see me coming a mile away that they’re going to screw me over that’s the way I feel sometimes with these dealerships

I will bring it up with him when I talk to him on Monday and will update here what he says. The thing is he is not even a mechanic he’s just a service manager. So so frustrated 😩

Which 'top of the line battery' are you going for ? Curious because they are not easy to find in Canada.
And is your extended warranty a bumper-to-bumper type, or powertrain only ?

service writers ONLY care about making their bonus on sales just like the sales people. you ask for the head manager running the service center. you have a bumper to bumper warranty

You would have been better off paying them to install the new battery, purchased from someone else of course, than pay them to charge up a bad battery. Ask smart questions, so you seem like a car savvy woman, like did you load test the battery? May I see the printout of the health status from the test? If you ask things like that, I guarantee he won't be treating you like that anymore. All are legitimate questions that someone with knowledge of the process can easily answer, and produce the documents...😎

Most if not all Jeep dealerships use the GR8 battery tester/charger. They hook up the battery to the GR8, it checks all the basic functions and if state of charge is low, it will go into charge mode until 100% charge is achieved. Then, it will do the battery diagnostics. Problem with the GR8 machine and most other testers : they often miss a bad Cherokee battery. We've had countless members here report that a dealership said a battery tested good, only to test bad the next time when it did fail again.
I'm pretty sure the battery will now fail their test (with GR8 or any other tester).
According to your first post, this a 2020 with only 18,000 Kms on the clock (11K miles), so it's still covered under your basic 3 year/ 60,000 Km warranty, which covers the battery.

Edit to add : this is the GR8 machine they use : Midtronics GR8 Series Diagnostic Battery Chargers

It sure does. They replaced my first battery, and the IBS on mine. I didn't pay a dime...😎

Hello from St-Zotique, Québec.
This is a bummer, i would go to a Costco. They have a good AGM battery and not that expansive.

There is one in Gatineau, near you.

And if i recall, they can install it for you for minimal charge. Or have it install by a near by mechanic. That will be a lot cheaper than your dealer.

Good luck.

How will it be cheaper than free? The car is under her 3/36 warranty.

Go back, talk to the service MANAGER, or dealership MANAGER. Tell them what happened, request a refund, get a free battery and leave. Then find a better dealer. If they refuse any part, call FCA while standing in front of the manager.
