This is what I found in the Owner's Manual for a 2019:
"NOTE: The liftgate can also be opened manually by
pushing the liftgate release handle and pulling upward in one fluid motion." About page 111.
I think it works the same as my 2014, while the liftgate is opening I push one of the buttons and the liftgate stops, then I raise it manually to where I want it to stop.
I have 2 buttons, one of them stops the liftgate.
If you have the hands free liftgate it may be different.
