Just received notice here in New Zealand that our car is to be included in recall 01C.

It's an international recall. So more than the 63082 Cherokees recalled in the USA.

Whew. Heads finally taken out of the sand.

@peterjdaly, mind posting a copy of the notice? Feel free to redact as needed!

Hadn't thought of the numbers before, but the recall notice on NHSTA site if for cars under "FCA US, INC.". There is "FCA Canada Inc.", "FCA Mexico, S.A. de C.V.", "Stellantis (Australia and New Zealand) Pty Ltd", "Chrysler France S.A.S.", and... well you get the idea. There's more ADII PTUs out there than just the U.S. 63,082 for 01C and 6,979 for 02C!

...and I just found this on Recall 45A:

That recall covers PTUs from 2015-2023!! The US version of the recall only covered 2016-2017. Apparently, they don't sell many ADII units Down Under since the total is only 63. But I found it curious that Jeep is ensuring Assie (and New Zealand?) Cherokees don't roll away if the PTU breaks. In North America? Just the earlier model years. 2018+? LOOK OUT! RUNAWAY CHEROKEE COMING!

I haven’t received any letter either. I’m in Canada. But my VIN shows up on the fca website.

It's just a generic notice. The importer tells me they are waiting for furher information from Stellantis before writing to the owners here in New Zealand.

Note that it refers to International, so I suspect it's the generic notice for any concerned vehicles that were exported.

It seems to me that the PTU problem was noticed early on in the KL lifespan, and they thought they would prevent failures by doing that software update. Likely they didn't know about the dodgy snap ring at that stage, but that it was found later on in the PTU problem cycle.

We bought the car in 2019, and have had a good run with it. When we got the SVC $WD error, we then had it scanned and found the DTC - C14A7-97 code. I then googled it, and started to find all the PTU drama going on in the USA.

When I contacted the importer here, I was told that the recall in the USA doesn't apply here, our car was made from different parts than the ones in the USA (seriously !!) and that the fault was an electrical fault that produced the dash warning and the DTC code.

Both the local service agent and the importer said it was safe to continue to drive the car. We didn't use it much, but one day while driving it the vehicle had the power loss that the USA recall refers to. I coasted to a safer place to stop, and as I was stopping the car made this awful crunching noise, like someone shaking a bucket of bolts.

The importer maintained their position that there was no recall for our car, until they were notified by Stellantis that there was. I think our car failing caused the importer to look into it with Stellantis.

Anyway, now the importer is saying they don't know what caused the car to fail, and we need to get it forensically examined before we know what the problem is. I know it's the PTU spline failure, just based on the history of this story. That failure having been caused by a dodgy snap ring.

It frustates me that we are having to do without a vehicle while all this drama plays out, but I guess I'm not the only one suffering that.

My 2019 3.2L Cherokee Trailhawk is starting to "Make a Funny Noise" at 68,000 Miles.
It's coming from the Rear of the Car to 45 + MPH . It sounds like a Loud Tire Noise.
My Experences with our 2 local dealers is to bring it in when you can't stand the noise any more to get it fixed. I brought cars in before that happens and I get told " It's Normal" !

No. Lets say Joe-Bob was installing the snap rings right and right next to him Jimmy-Bob (Joe-Bob's cousin) was installing the rings wrong. Another scenario Work station 1 got snap rings from one vendor and station 2 received rings from another vendor. That's if it was a vender problem and not an install problem. We will never know how or why they picked the VIN's that they did.
Hi I've worked at Trenton Engine for 38 + Years and never Remember seeing multiple vendors used on a Small Simple Part such as a C-Clip at the Same Time !

Poking around that site, there is 45A that you posted, and an earlier W47 recall for 2013-2018. This one covers 2609 vehicles.

My 2018 is not listed in either of these.

According to the Jeep AU site my Jeep is only affected by three recalls, T76, U63, and Y02.

Interestingly the US Mopar site previously (like a couple of weeks ago) had my Jeep listed with the same three recalls, but now gives me nothing.

Cheers.

How long will it take to “develop” this remedy? I mean it’s been months and looks like no end in sight.

Maybe never, at the rate we're going. Does anyone know if our PTU manufacturer is here in the US??? A lot of parts manufacturers are in either limbo, or the relocation process with the new tariff situation...I know where there's a nice Stellantis production facility in Illinois just sitting idle at the moment...🤔🫤😉😁

That's the worry. Are we expected to wait months, unable to use the vehicle we paid pretty good money for, until they decide how to afford to replace tens of thousands of PTUs.

I guess that's the million dollar question. So, is yours currently out of commission???🤔

Well, hopefully they have you on the waiting list for a new PTU. I don't know how that's going to work, since you're down there, and there's probably not a lot of KL Cherokees there to begin with...🤔🫤

I’m still driving mine and 4WD service light comes on all the time when in auto. PTU doesn’t engage. Not sure if I should be driving it at all due to power loss issues. We have a second car but that’s for my wife and kid. Not risking to put them in Cherokee.
