2016 Jeep Cherokee tail gate will only open a 1/3 of the way then close and when open will close 1/3 ok the way then open all the way. What is the problem.
First and foremost, welcome from Utah!!! Well, I know when they don't want to open correctly it's usually the dampening shock gone bad. The little one on the passenger side. The good thing is, they are a very cheap, and easy fix. As for it not wanting to close correctly, that could be something else possibly? Does it open, and close right if you kind of help it a little bit???

thank you for contacting me

I can open and close the tale gate manually. But when I go to open it I have to stop it from going down. Also the button in the cargo area has stopped working.

Hey there, fellow Canadian!
I've noticed the same issue when opening the gate manually using the button in the handle. If I use the remote release either with the fob or the button up front, no issues. I'd be interested to learn why this happens as well.
My cargo area button does work, though.

Hi there back fellow Canad
The issue is no matter whether I use the button up front or the remote if the tale gate is open or closed the tale only open or closes a1/3 of the way then opens or closes completely. The back doesn’t work at all.
Someone mentioned a dampening shock the one on the passenger side.
It could be that or I’m thinking it could be the button in the back.

Thank You for the YouTube video. The locking mechanism is working fine. The issue is when I open the tale gate with the remote or the button in the car. The tale gate only opens 1/3 of the way then closes and locks. The button in the back doesn’t work at all.

Thank You
