2016 Jeep Cherokee Limited features

Purchased my new 2016 Jeep Cherokee Limited last week. Just noticed today that the vehicle is missing the trunk release button on the inside. It has the panoramic roof, the navigation system, but as simple as a trunk release button is missing. What the heck? The button is not there on the keys as well. The only way to open a trunk is outside by the trunk door. I thought all vehicles since 1990 are equipped with this button and it should be standard, not optional.

My 2015 limited has a button on the fob and a button on the dash just right of the headlight controls to open the liftgate

Hi there and welcome to the forums !

Oh man, sounds like your salesperson didn't take the time to inform you about your vehicule's features and options. You could have done some more in-depth homework as well. Yes, remote tailgate is an option, part of an option group in fact (Comfort and Convenience Group I think... I don't have it either).
Just an example : my sister recently purchased a 2015 RAV4 and she wanted the cheapest model available ; her RAV4 does not have remote tailgate either. And I don't know about other brands, but I'm sure there are many more who offer it as an option, or part of an option package/group.

First thing I did when I started shopping for the Cherokee is make a list of standard features and then all options I needed/wanted. Never *assume* or blindly trust car salesmen. Do your homework...
I think the OP is referring more to just a simple trunk release button like on every sedan since 1990, not necessarily the power lift gate option. I have a 2016 Limited without power lift gate too. My wife wanted the power lift gate but ended up settling for the one without it.
Like the OP I was surprised to learn that there was no trunk release button on the inside or on the key fob like my 2015 Chrysler 200 has. Then I realized the reason why is that it would be virtually useless without the power lift gate option. The weight of the lift gate is too heavy for a simple release button to do any good, so I'm assuming they just skipped that button all together.

Ah crap, my bad and you're right. Just a simple trunk/gate release. You are also right about the liftgate being too heavy for this to work on a Cherokee. My Libertys had them, but for the lift-up glass only.
Yes, just a trunk release button inside the vehicle, so I don't go outside to open a trunk. Power lift or no power lift, doesn't matter. This is so simple and I thought it would be a part of standard equipment so I didn't even bother to check when was researching. This vehicle is equipped with so many features, how could they miss this?
I don't think it's something they "missed". Without the power option, the shocks simply aren't strong enough to lift the gate. (The gate probably weighs 3 times more than a standard trunk because of the glass) If there were a button, people would complain that it didn't work. To see what I mean, go to your liftgate, hit the release button on the handle and don't lift. It won't budge. You have to lift about the first 1/3rd of the opening distance before the shocks can lift it the rest of the way. And that's only because the weight gets distributed differently during the lift so the shocks become strong enough. So, a trunk release button without the power option would do absolutely nothing.....except bring people to the dealer complaining that it doesn't work.

Can you tell I had the same thought as you about lack of button? Then I investigated and figured out why it doesn't exist. Hope this helps and makes sense.

My wife worked for a Chevy dealer for many years. They had a customer bring his new car in complaining that the air conditioning did not cool. Mechanic had it for about 4 minutes and come out and told the service writer the car didn't have air conditioning.

I purchased my Cherokee with the luxury group to get the power lift gate and a few other goodies.

And I can't say enough good things about the ventilated seats.

In the hot weather with the leather seats it keeps the old ladies cooter nice and FRESH!
