First of all, thank you for the add. I currently own a 2016 2WD Cherokee Altitude, but have been looking at upgrading to a trailhawk since moving to the mountains. I've been keeping my eyes open for 2018 and below used trailhawks (I just like their look better than the new ones), and most are between $20K-$25K with low mileage / good condition.

Yesterday though, I ran across a 2015 Trailhawk with less than 63K miles on it for $13,000 from a private seller! The price in and of itself was red flag a bit, but it also includes some expensive options like V6, leather, panoramic sunroof, remote / push button start, 8.4 Uconnect with Nav. I've been messaging back and forth with the seller (private, not dealer) and his reasons for selling are his wife "didn't like it and went back to her car", and his reason for the super low price is because "a mirror is scratched". The pictures of it look perfect, and I know they're real because I can see the seller's reflection in the car taking the pictures.

What scares me (besides the "too good to be true" saying) are the horror stories I've been reading about the 2015s, mainly the transmission. I have a 2016 V6 with what I assume are all the same parts outside of 4WD and suspension, and I've never had any issues outside of a small issue with the auto start / stop. The car is located about 4 hours from me, so it's not like I can just roll up and have a look. Obviously if I do go to look at it, I'll want a professional, unbiased mechanic to take a thorough look. But what are your guys thoughts on it? Thanks

$13,000 seems like a lower price than most, but then it's a private sale with no dealer markup. I just looked and found several 2015-2016 with similar mileage selling between $16-18k at dealers.

Can't tell from a description on the internet...gotta go see it....

See if you can get the VIN and do a Carfax check or a MOPAR maintenance check. If in person, check for body alignment, doors, hood, light trim, etc., which is an indication of an accident and rebuild. Of course, do a test drive, slow and high speed, windows up and down. Like you say, pay a trusted mechanic to look at it.
