Steve, you're the man! Appreciate all the posts I've been reading through that you've provided such thorough information on.

A quick question for you, though, as you seem to know more than most. What can you tell me about the cargo area behind the rear seats other than the volume. I see the volume listed at about 25 cubic feet with the seats all the way back. What I want to now is how deep/wide/tall is the cargo area actually. Nothing I've seen points to this. I've got a big dog crate that rides with us wherever we go, and one of the biggest concerns I have on getting the Cherokee (which I really want) versus the Grand - which I'd rather not pony up to.

Thoughts?

That's a good question not covered in the stats. We probably won't know until some samples hit the showrooms in September or so.

How tall are the dog crates?

Judging from the rear I'd assume the load floor starts above that black fascia so its probably pretty decent but I have no insider information. Sorry.

I figured you were our local insider, given your interest level! :D

It's not the height of the dog crate that I'm really worried about, rather it's the length/depth issue. I don't want to stick it in sideways, and would rather put it in length ways, if that makes sense.

You can kinda see in this picture the size of the dog crate - and how I want it to sit in the Jeep.

LOL just a die hard fan but thanks.

You say the current vehicle (Cherokee) is at 22 cu ft with the seats up.
The closest match is probably a BMW X1 if you can go and look at one of those. It has 25 cu ft with the seats up.

I have a Golf TDI and it has 15 cu ft with the seats up. That carrier would take up my whole back and that is sideways! My hunch is that size-wise you are looking at the GRAND Cherokee as an equivalent to your Touareg. The Cherokee is probably equivalent to the Tiguan, perhaps a bit bigger.

Don't know if that helps or not. (Tiguan is 23.8 cu ft with the seats up so if you can hit up a VW dealer and get an idea if it will fit with the Cherokee just being about 1 cu ft less.).

This link to Tiguan specs may or may not work:
http://www.vw.com/en/models/tiguan/...ne.html#/tab=8d3deca944025216b4e6c6deb410098d

(I should have never visited the VW page. I see they are coming out with a Tiguan R Type. No off road but otherwise a nice ride.)

Yeah, I thought I edited my post above to clarify but it must not have worked.

The picture is from post #3 in this thread that is dated 7/24/2013 and the picture's caption (and source) say 2014 Limited. Not a big deal, just thought it was interesting since we know that tailpipe design didn't show up until the 2015 Limited.
