Detroit News said:
Chrysler Group LLC has built more than 12,000 2014 Jeep Cherokees, but has not shipped a single one to dealers and is still working to resolve a problem with the programming of the crossover’s new nine-speed transmission.

“Chrysler Group is in the final stages of validating the updated powertrain calibrations,” said Gualberto Ranieri, vice president of communications for Chrysler, in an email to The Detroit News. “The company will not ship vehicles until we are fully satisfied the Cherokee meets customer expectations for performance, refinement and quality.”

More than three months after the vehicle went into production in Toledo, Chrysler is trying to get the transmission to shift smoothly in what CEO Sergio Marchionne has called a make-or-break vehicle for the Auburn Hills automaker, one that is key to capturing a fast-growing segment of the market.

Ranieri noted that the Cherokee is an all-new vehicle that, in addition to its all-new transmission, boasts two new powertrains and three advanced four-wheel-drive systems, all of which need to integrate flawlessly.

“Once the latest powertrain calibration is validated, the company will be able to quickly update the powertrain software on Cherokees already built and ship vehicles to dealerships around the country in quantity,” he said. ?

Chrysler has been using its factory workers to conduct extensive test drives and isolate the problem. Work on the Cherokee line was slowed last month, but never stopped — despite the absence of a fix for the problem. The line has since resumed to full production.

“The problem is the logic. Like most transmissions these days, it’s adaptive. It learns the way the customer drives and it makes the shift quality better for that type of driving,” said auto industry expert Jim Hall of 2953 Analytics LLP, who said he has heard similar reports from inside the company. “They want the transmission to be just smooth as silk, and that is apparently not the case at all.”

He believes Chrysler’s decision to hold the vehicles at the Toledo factory is the correct one.

“It’s better to delay it than to risk what happened with the (Ford) Escape,” Hall said, referring to a series of glitches that afflicted Ford Motor Co.’s new compact crossover in the months following its launch last year.

But customers are growing impatient.

Mark Orlowski, of Warren, has wanted a Cherokee since the new crossover debuted at the New York International Auto Show last March. He planned to buy one when they went on sale. Chrysler planned to begin building them in May, but a series of delays pushed the on-sale date back — first to June, then to September.

“I actually talked to a salesman yesterday. He still did not have a ship date for me,” Orlowski said Thursday, adding that he understands why Chrysler wants to hold the vehicle until the bugs are worked out. “It’s the right thing to do, but on the other hand, it makes me leery. But I can’t wait to get my hands on one and test-drive it.”

The delays also may make Chrysler miss its financial targets for the third quarter and, perhaps, the year.

“The second half (financial goal for 2013) is not doable without a proper launch of the Cherokee,” Marchionne warned in a July conference call with analysts and reporters.

What you have to ask yourself is what do we know now after watching this video that we didn't know before we did? The answer is nothing. I am not exactly sure what the purpose of the video is. All I know is that my 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited is progressing along nicely through the VOTS.
On the question of videos has anyone seen a tv advert for the Cherokee yet ?

It almost looks like they are keeping it a secret from the general public.

I have not seen a commercial yet.

I went to my insurance agent on Friday and they did not have them listed in their system yet.

I checked the other day on my insurance company website... And i was able to get a quote for sport/north(latitude) and for the limited/th....

Good news for me.. About 100$/yr cheaper than my crv 2008 for ltd/th and 200$/yr cheaper for the 2 other trims...
I saw an article somewhere that said they were holding the ads

Yeah I saw that yesterday, he's all over the place, looks like Conan on drugs. Nothing we don't already know. The media needs to go knock on jeeps door again and say "hey wtf?wheres this car?"
Agreed. I'm tired of rehashes of old news with today's date on them.
What blows my mind about this whole process is the fact that they are fixing a car during production. This "transmission issue" Should have been worked out long before they started consumer production, why did they only notice it once they started full production, I think jeep screwed themselves. They now have 12000 that they cant just scrap and vehicles that need to go back and be "inspected" and "tested". Hello jeep! This is not the point in the vehicles life when you do this. Should of been done way before you start poping them out for sale. And jeep is trying to cover their @$$ by using the "we will only release it once were satisfied " BS! ever since the leaked pictures, jeep rushed this vehicle and screwed up royally and they and the consumers are paying the price. Sorry everyone, just venting.

Kinda harsh. If it's just a software update issue then it isn't that big of a deal. It just takes time to manually flash the update to each vehicle.
Lol it is harsh. I understand its an update, but it sounds like before they can even do the update they have to get the calibration right to get it to shift how they want it. Thats prob why it is taking so long, they are still trying to get it right. Doesn't that sound like something that should have been worked out during development? Once they figure it out, the updates won't take long
Hum... seems like you could not hold Media Days and let people who test drive cars drive your vehicle if it had a transmission shift problem. So it seems Jeep has the correct program now. It just takes a lot of time to go through that many vehicles.

Hopefully. I had breakfast, I'm better now lol.
In my case i had planned on getting my cherokee on order for an early spring delivery, my thoughts being that some of you would have put some miles on your new vehicles in the meantime and highlighted any potential problems.

The way things are looking at the moment the end of the year is getting just a little closer with no movement as yet.

Allpar is reporting that the software fix appears to have been found and that many Dealers are saying that their Dealer Connect systems are reporting 2014 Cherokees have been shipped.

Wonder if the Toledo plant will be open tomorrow on the holiday?

I am sure it will be. If the fix really has been found Chrysler is going to pump as many 2014 Cherokees out as fast as they can. I read somewhere that Chrysler has already authorized overtime extending the two shifts there from 8 hours to 9 hours.

I live in Fenton, less than an hour from Chrysler's Auburn Hills headquarters. It has been interesting watching the 2014 Cherokees come through here late at night. There is no way you can miss them with those high running lights. They come down US 23/I 75 and then turn around here and go back. They did the same thing when they were testing the Darts. The other day I even saw a 2014 Cherokee, with manufacture's plates on it, in my local Wally World's parking lot. The really unique thing about that one was that if had a diesel engine in it.
The 4 white ch THs driving I 75 around alligator alley seem to be doing fine. The test drivers must be getting bored We passed one and the driver had his arm propped on the door sill and holding up his head!

According to above report we may be getting close to release/shipping dates so hopefully I can see one of these creatures before the end of the month.
